Reminds me of freedom of navigation operations. You establish control over territory by normalising your use of force in an area.

ICE is establishing territorial control and dominion over everywhere that allows them to normalise their presence. They're becoming a special police force without jurisdiction that fundamentally sits above all others. They're evolving into the same role as the Special Tasks Patrol Police in Ukraine, which was modelled on the Nazi SS.

The videos getting posted to /r/minnesota are wildly unhinged, where the fuck is the state government

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 75 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The mayor said on a podcast that essentially ICE has more people and bigger guns so he's not going to push for things like local cops getting involved. A few days ago after the Renee Good murder, Walz told the National Guard to standby in case we've got another George Floyd riot on our hands. No mention of doing anything to stop the ICE violence already happening, just a threat if protestors respond in kind. He's lost any semblence of sauce since his embarrassing VP run, if he even had any to begin with.

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 54 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean figures Walz would call out the Guard to sic on the protestors given his history

but god damn if there was ever a time to provoke a constitutional crisis, this is it

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 64 points 1 month ago

Things are very bad right now and I think we're all on our own. But if you go through Minneapolis, there's signs about the murder, "FUCK ICE" spray painted on every corner, protests at the building where people are being held (which Bovino just personally went to and cracked down on), people you wouldn't expect starting to talk about getting armed, people surrounding agents if the agent is alone and "unarresting" people like back during BLM. ICE Watches in vulnerable locations, people offering to pick up groceries for others.

The cities are under siege and everyone knows it and everyone is banding together in their own way.

Appreciate it. I meant more that no outside organization is doing anything to alleviate the damage. Not the cops (ofc), not the state. Its all people helping people.

If anyone saw the video of the doordash driver that rushed into a woman's home, she called 911 and local police just told her to turn the woman over.

MN and the democratic party are pretty much absent here

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Ice would still have a stern fight on their hands if police fought against them. Police have community connections, know the city intimately, are generally better trained than most ICE units, and would have the overwhelming support of the people. If they relaxed enforcement vs. people fighting ICE, Minneapolis forces would vastly outnumber Ice

None of this will happen, of course. Police don't seem to want to fight Ice, and leadership isn't looking to make an enemy of Trump. I'm just saying that numbers is a terrible excuse for holding back

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 44 points 1 month ago

They definitely don't want to fight them. They're mostly just annoyed that their presence is making their job busier and more complicated. But the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police, of which many cops are members, are in full support of ICE actions.

The pigs are more than happy to watch ICE do what they've always wanted to but couldn't quite get away with.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

They're busy composing strongly worded letters?

[-] Parzivus@hexbear.net 43 points 1 month ago

Always feels tough to judge what will be significant as it happens but this is looking like a big deal. Minneapolis is known for being cool after all cool-zone

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago

I think things are getting to that point but its taking longer because people are directionless. ICE is just swarming all over. With BLM, the police had strongholds that could be targeted. In this case, ICE keeps changing hotels and such. So the options are confronting them in the open or risking hurting innocent workers at some hotel, or the immigrants themselves in the building they're being kept and flown out of.

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

There's the Whipple building where victims are kept before shipment, but I assume that place is a fortress.

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago

Yeah, thats what I meant. Nobody is gonna set the Whipple Building on fire like they did the police station since thats where the people are being held.

[-] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

That and people have convinced themselves that all the actually cool and good stuff that was done during BLM was false flag ops to make them look bad.

[-] miz@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

the guy who torched that target was definitely a cop, iirc they matched his photo

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

the bastille was a fortress too

[-] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh no! Was there a surge in undocumented people in the state or something?! What the fuck are you people fucking talking about?! If you're all upset about protests, even if they were the violent riots that you're depending on for the strategy, why the fuck would you deploy immigration officers?

Probably less accountability than the +5 with advantage to accountability saving throws that cops already have

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 78 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

immigration barely has anything to do with it anymore. it's just Trump's terror goon squad now.

edited to add: obviously the Good murder didn't have anything to do with immigration. they picked up a 17 year old kid (citizen, brown of course) at his job at Target, beat the shit out of him, and then dumped him in a Walmart parking lot miles away. their job is to fuck up cities in blue states and that's it.

[-] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 55 points 1 month ago

They did the same thing to a marine vet, and told her "don't you guys learn? this is why we killed that lesbian bitch"

With US citizens, there is nothing stopping them from abducting you, beating andremoved you, then dumping you wherever they please.

[-] supafuzz@hexbear.net 40 points 1 month ago

blatantly illegal arrest of a protester

not going to be surprised if he needs a hospital if/when they let him out

is this on video?

[-] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 1 month ago

This is from an interview with the vet. I believe I saw it on breakthrough news

[-] Inui@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago

Sorry to keep replying to you, but you're absolutely right. Its retaliation for showing any sign of resistance. Border Patrol is here too. They grab anyone they feel like, but are absolutely still targeting immigrants in smash and grabs. They try to be in and out as quick as possible and keep going to businesses like Target, Home Depot, etc looking for specific people.

[-] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 38 points 1 month ago

The original justification was "investigating fraud"

[-] Elysia@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

There was a time when the SS was just 8 nazi goons meant to stand around at NSDAP meetings.

Soon there will be 3000 happy hippies with LSD in water guns in Minneapolis. Suddenly, all the ICE agents are seen with their new immigrant friends and petting cats on the sidewalks.

[-] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago

the CIA tried this, turns out giving tons of LSD to violent unstable people actually just makes them even more violent and unstable

[-] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago

I saw the black and white video of them giving a soldier pot. Dude got all happy and giggly. Maybe they need to have a bonfire with weed.

[-] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Not sure if I believe this actually. If that was the case, they'd have every soldier on LSD.

[-] InexplicableLunchFiend@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Soldiers need to be stable. That's why they instead are given amphetamines

[-] Atlas@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 1 month ago

Stimulants have similar effects and don't cause added risk of giving deranged lunatics with guns (as many) crazy hallucinations

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago

I now see that being the oppressor isn't groovy. It's a drag, man. Where's that black and white kitty? She's cute and I want a cuddle.

[-] Atlas@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Austin, we won.

[-] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago

A thousand less agents everywhere else

[-] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 month ago

For comparison, Gestapo at its height in 1944 had around 32000 personnel in entire occupied Europe.
