There seems to be some confusion among the commenters here. Delcy Rodríguez is not María Machado. Machado is the one who got the Nobel Peace Prize and is not acting president of Venezuela. Delcy Rodríguez is the former Vice President who took over.

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

And is also, according to Trump at least, also not the acting president. The acting president according to Trump is... Trump

[-] skozzii@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I haven't known this woman long but all I have seen so far is her saying one thing and doing another.

She says she isn't going to just be a US lackey, but her actions sure show she is.

Best thing she can do is tell Trump to F off, and follow up actions with it.

[-] zeca@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

The conflict is rather between different narratives being pushed. What are actual actions that she took cintrary to what she says? Trump and a lot of the media wants to push the narrative that she is cooperating with the us... so we have to look at actual actions rather than misquoted words here and there.

I know who's getting kidnapped next!

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Gosh I hope it's me >:3

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

What an incredibly absurd and unpredictable situation. It's hard to say who is in the more precarious position, her or Trump.

[-] D1re_W0lf@piefed.social 8 points 3 weeks ago

Her. It’s her head that might go off next. For Trump is just Monday.

It took a string of military failures, a famine, and a lot of dead Italians before that picture could be taken.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

And 23 years of tyranny.

[-] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

This is America. We dont do accountability here, tyvm

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

One of them has the world's largest economy and military at their command and the other is literally in a room that the last guy guy kidnapped from.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Well, yeah, it was pretty obvious that Trump did not control Venezuela since he has no troops on the ground.

He's just been threathening the current Venezuelan leadership with personally getting the same fate as Maduro, but that's not at all the same as controlling the actual country.

No amount of struting like some prized rooster by Trump on this (like he does for just about everything just before he TACOes) alters the reality that a special ops kidnapping isn't anywhere near the same level of military commitment as an invasion and at most will deliver chaos rather than control.

[-] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Here come the bombs again then.....

Never, ever accept help from MAGA. That is your lesson.

[-] detren@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

She didn’t. You’re confusing the acting president with the woman that won the Nobel prize. They’re different people.

[-] justastranger@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago
[-] brendansimms@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

may or may not be true. the source is 'four sources involved at high levels', which does not inspire confidence, especially if those are americans with a vested interest in the Venezuelan people turning on Rodriguez so that they can easily install their own person if need be.

[-] rozodru@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

Venezuela speed running propped up puppet government I guess. Usually took other countries a lot longer to get to this point. CIA is slacking.

[-] merc@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I think Trump assumed he'd already set up a puppet government. He made a deal with the VP, she got bumped up to president when Trump took out her boss. So, she's a puppet, right? But, it doesn't seem like she ever had any intention of becoming a puppet, and Trump has no leverage to force her.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 0 points 3 weeks ago

If my US intervention timetable is right, by the end of next month Venezuela will be controlled by ISIS

[-] SARGE@startrek.website 0 points 3 weeks ago

Well here in the US we've been speedrunning Germany in the 1930s, so it tracks that the places we fuck up and try to control would also be speedrunning their own thing.

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

We don’t need to speed run another country, the United States’ founding ideology is that the genocide of an entire continent is a good thing.

[-] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Puppet government forgot how 2 puppet already?

[-] MrMakabar@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 weeks ago

She is a hardcore Communist. Her father was a guerilla leader in the Venezuelan jungle. It was obvious to anybody, that she would betray Trump at the first oppurtunity. However being able to sell oil to the US and pay some money to Trump directly via some Qatari payment scheme is still much better then having full blown sanctions on Venezuela. Rodriguez is also a realists and understands that this is actually an oppurtunity to strengthen the country, if it is played smartly.

From Trump's POV?

[-] Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Not really. This is as basic as governments get. She says this for her base and people but also is doing what America wants behind the scene. Come on guys. Is this your first government or what?

[-] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

as she works to unite the country

LMAO

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

Wait, I thought Trump was their president now. He must have realized he can't kidnap himself.

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago

Wannabee dictator does not like taking orders. Applies to both Donny and Delcy.

[-] wheezy@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

I think we can drop the "wannabe" at this point

[-] homes@piefed.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

Looks like Miss Nobel prize might have another crack at the office

He hates it when you call him that you know.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 0 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Wait, isn't she the one who conspired with the US for the position she now holds in the first place?

Edit for those who doubted:

Venezuela’s Delcy Rodríguez assured US of cooperation before Maduro’s capture (The Guardian)

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

No, she was the second in the regime.

The Trump admin felt it was probably more effective to give the current regime a slap to let them know who is calling the shots, but otherwise leave the regime largely intact. If they can just get the same Venezuela as it already existed, just as a vassal state, mission accomplished.

Versus Machado, who was the opposition leader trying to ingratiate herself with Trump up to giving him her peace prize in hopes of having the US implement her indirect electoral victory in 2024. Trump administration has shown zero interest in making that happen.

[-] Thor_Whale@lemmus.org -1 points 3 weeks ago

Trumplestiltskin probably wants her to pay for his Gaza hotel scheme. So the money won't go to him directly it'll go to his satanic son-in-law Jared the Antichrist kushner. So it'll never touch Trump's hands it'll just touch by proxy. As long as he gets a penthouse with a view of the Mediterranean and a view of whatever golf course he puts there he'll be as happy as a fat pig

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

Trump is the antichirst in this. After all he has all these people wearing those hats with his mark of the beast on them that they voluntarily wear on their foreheads.

[-] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago

Krasnov and Delcy share a lot in common, especially the dictator bit. Go to hell, both of you.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

lololololol

These dumb bastards always, always think 'he'll never turn on me!' despite literal decades of evidence to the contrary.

[-] TrivialBetaState@sopuli.xyz -2 points 3 weeks ago

What is she complaining about? All the countries in the world have been taking and following orders from the US for the last 75 years and have been happy about it. They don't like offensive comments from the current president. But orders? Just give us more!

[-] mlg@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

"This is totally unacceptable. Venezuela would never take threats and orders from the United States. We maintain our sovereignty against such an audacious adversary. Anyway in unrelated news, we are opening up the oil industry to privatization to help stir the economy. I can assure you this idea was 100% of our own making and has absolutely nothing to do with American demands."

[-] zeca@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

Have they actually opened up to privatizations? Or is it just talk here and there?

[-] eightpix@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Bye, Del-cy-sha.

Ok, I don't wish her harm or any ill will. I just know that, in this meat grinder of international diplomacy, theres a cost if she tries to push back on Lord Farquaad's wishes. He's already promised he would harm her — like every other woman he's ever encountered.

Beneath the politics, almost certainly, Delcy Rodriguez and María Corina Machado both want what will benefit Venezuelans. Or, perhaps, they only want to serve their own supporters. Regardless, neither of these women will gain from participating in the Game of Thrones that Washington has engaged.

Also, Angela Means's quest to vindicate Felisha has merit. Much is assumed about her. Few, if any, care for her. These are the stories we promote. This is the world we promote.

[-] agent_nycto@lemmy.world -2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

But she gave him the Nobel prize! Shouldn't they be frens?

Edit: I haven't had coffee yet my b
