Because we don't really care about protecting kids.

[-] LemmyShemmy@aussie.zone 0 points 37 minutes ago

What will you do if your kid was a victim ?

[-] RiverRock@lemmy.ml 11 points 4 hours ago

Jail is for us little ant people, as a threat to keep us working at the Line Go Up factory so our overlords can keep hunting Malaysian 9 year olds for sport

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Because we're in a one sided class war

Because laws are made by the rich for the rich?

Think about all the laws which have monetary punishment. For someone with enough money there is a license to not comply with these laws.

In most places the monetary punishment goes equal to everyone not caring if they have no money or they are billionaires.

[-] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 5 points 4 hours ago

Its not illegal when they do it.

[-] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 67 points 9 hours ago

I just want everyone to know the NSA always knew about all of this.

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 52 points 9 hours ago

And instead went after Snowden for pointing out the scale of their illegal surveillance, too.

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 15 points 8 hours ago

it's depressing to watch the smear campaign about being a russian spy take hold

[-] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Agreed, and furthermore, it shouldn't matter at all. If the worst Russian Intelligence can do is use real evidence to prove a crime was committed, that's an easily solvable problem both by not committing crimes and by prosecuting crimes committed with transparent, due process.

It really is a very silly argument.

"Your honor, in my defense, the guy who saw me shoot the victim, called the police, and submitted some of the damning evidence to them was a known mafia member, untrustworthy, and had committed crimes against me in the past."

"Okay, and what do you have to say about all of this other corroborated evidence from trustworthy sources?"

"Well they wouldn't have found it if he hadn't pointed it out!"

I don't think he was a Russian spy, but I am also sure that it's irrelevant.

[-] reabsorbthelight@lemmy.world 2 points 53 minutes ago

And we could prosecute them as foreign agents in addition to pedos. Complying with komprobant isn't an excuse

[-] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

It's only believed by the same people that already that he was a traitor to the USA and should be in prison. The people that rightfully consider him a hero haven't changed their beliefs

[-] call_me_xale@lemmy.zip 68 points 10 hours ago

The answer is in the question! They're rich.

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 36 points 10 hours ago

it goes beyond that.

yes, it's true that the rich got off free for doing the crimes that poor people get punished for in our legal system; but pedophilia carries a social stigma with it that other crimes don't have and these people were so confidant that the our legal system was going to protect them that they were being open about their pedophilia ... on gmail!!!

they're so mustache-twirly evil that they're making comments about newborns tasting like cream cheese.

[-] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago

Remember the quote:

"If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy."

Well, "If MAGAs become convinced their leaders are pedophiles, they won't abandon their leaders, they'll abandon being anti-pedophilia."

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

These people should not be allowed to participate in society

The simple answer is it's because western liberal regimes are not democracies. A system where you have one set of laws for regular people, and another for the affluent is a plutocracy.

Imagine a office worker did this , he/she would be behind bars rotting away for life

because they are members of the ruling class, the legal system primarily exists to protect them from the working class

Is your liberalism no longer making sense? Lofty promises of justice for all, equality and all that turning out to be a big farce with those at the top openly doing the most horrendous crimes and just getting away with them in a way that leaves you seething and wondering 'what about justice'?

Try old time original Marxism (fortified with Leninism for clarity and taste) today!

Turns out that stuff they were talking about a hundred years ago is still true today and the old brand promise still holds true!

Not ready to check out just yet? Still nervous about Marxism? That's alright. As economic conditions worsen, your buying power lessens, and you're given the shaft in the work-place and an empty wallet at the grocery and/or electronics store you can always remember this fine product and revisit when you're ready!

When all other solutions have failed, when liberal and social democrat reform turns out to be a dud, remember there's original strength Marxism (fortified with Leninism). We'll be waiting for you.

i like mine with a dash of bolivarianism and a spoon full of indigenismo and it keeps me from doom scrolling all the time. lol

The level of "endogamy" within the rich and powerful is definitely slowing things up. We have strong evidence that these people are all at least acquaintance if not friends. It may not be great for your career to investigate/prosecute top level politicians and billionaires. Actually the positive of the documents release is that people see it.

Then a big factor is that being invited to a party where children have been rape doesn't prove you partake to the rapes or even have been aware of it.

Finally, money means that you can afford a lawyer slowing things down by writing various requests to the court. Your lawyer will tell you to save your money and do the necessarà/efficient one. But for people with virtually infinite money, a team of lawyer can slow down the things

[-] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 5 points 10 hours ago

Theres far more than pedophilia in there, too. Several lifetime sentences. Its because they are the same people, and the others are for some reason ideologically aligned or captured. Its honestly beyond me how this could pickup so much momentum.

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 9 points 9 hours ago

... and the others are for some reason ideologically aligned or captured...

this has been fascinating me since i've learned that epstein pushed for /pol/ to reopen on 4chan and also learn about maxwell's role as a moderator on reddit. they admit to steering the pizzagate narrative through qanon on 4chan to control maga and you can infer that maxwell controlled the conversation for liberals on reddit. if you combine both facts together, you're left with the inescapable conclusion that they've been socially engineering politics in the western world for the last few decades.

we easily show maga plenty of evidence that their world view is wrong and we deride them for refusing to admit it through doubling down; but now we have proof that the vote-blue-no-matter-who crowd were also likewise manipulated and they're likewise doubling down by scapegoating russia.

[-] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 5 points 10 hours ago

Sufficiently rich people don't go to jail.
