People aren’t reading the article apparently based on the questions about Wash.

The animated series would be set between the events of the 2002 series and the 2005 big-screen continuation, Serenity

“Hello. I’m Wash’s previously unmentioned identical twin brother Dry. I’m glad to be joining the crew. In memory of my brother would you guys mind calling me Wash? Great thanks.”

[-] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Zoë: Wash 2, you are twice the man Wash 1 was!

[-] plateee@piefed.social 3 points 2 months ago

Ah, so this is the special announcement. It's probably easier to schedule voice recordings than full, on set live action.

I wonder what animation style they'll use.

[-] NeptuneOrbit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Is it just me or are voice acting and acting two different skill sets not every actor has? Love to be wrong but I am not sure it will translate well.

[-] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

They are different but do feed into each other. When voice acting for a character, actors will be on camera, and they will be acting the part while talking into the mic. Animators will incorporate a lot of the voice actors' mannerisms, facial expressions, and motions into their final product because it makes the animation much more life-like. Its more than just sitting blankly in front of a mic.

Alan Tudyk will just have to stand in for everyone else as well, he already voices every 3rd Disney character.

And I would absolutely watch it.

[-] ghostsinthephotograph@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Many of the original cast are regular voice actors in games and animated series. I have zero worries in that regard. They were an extremely talented crew.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Here I am worried the animation won't be able to catch some of their facial expressions that really added tremendous depth to the characters.

[-] ghostsinthephotograph@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Oh for sure. Plenty of other things to be worried about beyond mere voices :)

[-] hedders@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago

Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.

[-] rainwall@piefed.social 3 points 2 months ago

Disney owns it now, so 50/50 chance palpatine will return.

[-] dan1101@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

Maybe they will return Wash

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

It's between the series and movie

[-] rants_unnecessarily@piefed.social 1 points 2 months ago

Oh dear. I have some mixed feelings coming up.

[-] ech@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Original cast set to return

I'd be ok if there was at least one exclusion there...

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

You mean you don't want Shepherd Book to be voiced by a reanimated corpse? 🤔

Adam Baldwin is a major right-wing ragebaiter that was at the center of the gamergate bullshit, even being credited with coining the term itself. Since then he's just gotten worse.

[-] null@lemmy.org 1 points 2 months ago

Fits for his character.

[-] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Well that does certainly puts a harsh dull on the situation.

i wasnt super enthused about an animated show to begin with, but i think this probably just killed it for me harder than fox.

[-] Ooops@feddit.org 1 points 2 months ago
[-] AllYourSmurf@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Please tell me Nathan pushed The Button during the announcement.

[-] Klox@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I'll take it, but what I really need right now is Nathan Fillion to ditch The Rookie asap and get back into sci-fi.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Maybe he can reprise Captain Hammer and do a song and dance number in the Superhero Retirement Home.

[-] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 months ago

Please don't screw that up…

It's been over 20 years, if they did live action they'd have to probably ruin it by aging up every character 20 years. Also have to tone down action or else have them "mentor" a younger crew, which would probably also ruin it.

Animation could be very good. I don't get why you'd immediately be dismissive.

As various franchises have played with how to resurrect an "older" franchise, extending the original cast seems to be the winner, but this show wouldn't survive the age up probably.

[-] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Nah they're all old and chubby or plastic surgeried up now, it'd be weird to make it live action now

[-] Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

At least watch it before passing judgement....

[-] MrQuallzin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

And that screws it up how?

[-] mriormro@lemmy.zip -4 points 2 months ago

lol more nostalgia to placate the masses.

[-] meco03211@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago
[-] Hazor@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I am so placated right now.

[-] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It does seem like a strange decision. I was on board with rebooting it 15 years ago but now feels way too late

[-] I_Fart_Glitter@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Every time I see a crew member starring in a new procedural drama, I’m like… but y’all could be doing Firefly… 🥺
