cap-think Ahh, the burden of being a risk-taking entrepreneur, forced to make hard choices, like killing more workers so that I can kill more of the workers who I send abroad to kill more workers

Gotta kick people outta the country so we can afford to pay for the healthcare we cut to afford to kick people outta the country!

undyne-joy "lol, somebody must have hacked the Whitehouse website. Every single policy just links to were-gonna-kill-you memes"

the-republican "Oh, no. It's supposed to be like that"

timmy-pray Stupid Gallipoli needs to go so bad that the military collapses and I can afford seeing a doctor. May Iranian missiles rain down and deliver me dental care.

"we don't even have healthcare to cut"

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 34 points 6 days ago

A universal medicare would be cheaper than the current for-profit system. Americans don't lack healthcare because it is inherently expensive and they spend their money on killing brown people instead, they could easily have both but the ruling class has succeeded in rent seeking via the insurance industry (and its integration with tech, finance, and limiting supply via professional accreditation groups).

Though it is maybe a little true in the sense that if Americans ever threw off their false consciousness they might have a chance of coercing the end of that rent seeking regime, and in doing so, challenge imperialism a tiny, tiny bit.

Thank God for the black panthers. They have done more for this country than its so-called ‘patriots’.

By the way, FWIW some states are making a go at getting state level universal healthcare and if libs can pull that off and are serious, they have my critical support on that.

[-] Chana@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

I've watched an entire generation of DSAers try and make that happen in my old state. They, somehow, never got on top of their own campaign until just a few months before whatever the relevant deadline was.

Critical support for those nerds, hope they get it v together.

I'm confused? They're going to save a shitload on healthcare already when soldiers start dying?

[-] stink@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 6 days ago

I hope they slash VA benefits and the GI bill while they're at it.

[-] isame@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

Nah they have to wait til after the war for that. They still need them boys to enlist, after all.

[-] isame@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago

Or after the draft.

[-] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 25 points 6 days ago

How do you "consider" cuts on something that practically doesn't exist or are they considering cutting healthcare for the rich, because you can be fucking sure there isn't anything left to cut from those living paycheck to paycheck.

[-] Blakey@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

Iirc, the current American healthcare system is actually subsidised by a greater amount than the cost of universal health care - ie, the cost to the government of providing free healthcare to every citizen would be less than they are spending now. America doesn't lack universal health care because it's expensive, they lack it because the current system funnels staggering amounts of wealth to the already wealthy.

Pull it from Tricare.

I know these guys have got just monster amygdalas, but it's still so impressive to see how terrified they manage to be of Muslims.
...Brown people are scarier than heart disease. Good going, boys, you really committed.

[-] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 33 points 6 days ago

They ain't scared of brown people. They just want to secure the petrodolla

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 22 points 6 days ago
[-] sodium_nitride@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago

Dang we're forgetting column C. They wanted to cut healthcare either way.

[-] fox@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago

Damn that's nicely animated

[-] Jew@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

I read that as pedodolla but that's really just the same thing

[-] purpleworm@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago

Hot take, but I'd rather try to analyze things from the standpoint of who financially benefits from these decisions rather than do phrenology on them, much less assume that fear mongers are fractionally as afraid as they present themselves as.

[-] bunnossin@hexbear.net 22 points 6 days ago

you mean as leftists we SHOULDNT be saying our enemies are biologically predisposed to violence??? shocked-pikachu

[-] crapwittyname@feddit.uk 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Just a minor point, but neural pathways are plastic. If you go around being afraid all the time, your amygdala literally grows, taking brain mass from the logical centers of your brain. I'm not saying that they are predisposed to violence anymore than a concert pianist who practices eight hours a day is "predisposed" to playing the piano.
