Israel has no right to defend itself as it is an occupying power, Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said at an emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

“The only thing they can muster is continued pronouncements about Israel’s supposed right to self defense, although as an occupying power, it does not have that power as confirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice handed down in 2004,” said the Russian representative. Despite stating that Israel does not have the right to defend itself, Nebenzya proceeded to state that Israel does have the right to “ensure its security” and “to fight terrorism.” As for Israel’s security - and we recognize its rights to ensure its security - this security can only be fully guaranteed if we resolve the Palestinian issue on the basis of relevant UN Security Council resolutions," said the Russian representative

Did Russia just modify their position? It still plays the 'both sides' but I don't remember them using this kind of language. I have to admit I don't follow Russia's UN statements closely but it seems like legal beagle Putin is using the 2004 ICJ ruling as a way to further distance Russia from the western position.

Eleven bakeries destroyed, only nine remain: UN relief agency

Eleven bakeries in Gaza have been struck and destroyed since 7 October, according to an update from the UN relief agency UNOCHA.

Six of the destroyed bakeries were in Gaza City, two in Jabalia, two in the Middle Area and one in Khan Younis, UNOCHA added.

With only nine bakeries left operating in Gaza as of Wednesday, people are being “exposed to air strikes” while standing in “hours-long queues”, UNOCHA said.

The bakeries are receiving flour from UNOCHA, but are struggling to continue operating due to fuel shortages, the relief agency added.

We can't afford to waste words as our youth are being lost in the West Bank.

We've endured the occupation's crimes for far too long. We've remained silent, coping with our limited means. We've abided by orders and directives while witnessing the heartbreaking scenes of children and women's suffering every day.

Today, we express ourselves concisely, speaking from the heart and with deep sorrow. We are the sons of this people, the sons of our security agencies, the sons of Fatah, and our loyalty and history are beyond doubt. Above all, we are the children of Palestine, a land bleeding from every vein.

Today, we declare that the Palestinian leadership holds a historical responsibility to announce a direct confrontation with the criminal occupation. If, within 24 hours, our brother Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) does not issue a clear statement, declaring an open confrontation with the occupation by any means necessary and disavowing the criminal statements made by Blinken, then no one should expect our obedience, no directives will be followed, and loyalty to any agency will cease to exist.

Starting tomorrow at this very moment, we, dozens of members of the security forces, will declare ourselves in open defiance of orders and identify ourselves by name. No one should doubt our resolve or commitment unless our brother Abu Mazen issues a clear decision.
