From the French Wikipedia page, it goes against the current, using its wings, body and tail to force it to the bottom of the river.
Not to mention their food might be a trap, too, and next thing you know you're stuck on a line with a barbed hook in your face

The Dipper is one of the only songbirds that actually swims and dives fully underwater.

Not really since we enter their realm and they give us what for. This is more akin to walking to the local shop for a snack and getting scooped up and carried away by a giant eagle

So is this is the fish equivalent of Bigfoot? Or like space aliens?
It's a creature that comes from an environment where we cannot survive, and drags us back into its realm to eat us. I was thinking more the kraken, but maybe 'space cthulhu'-type aliens work too.
Don't think Bigfoot is a particularly violent chap? Maybe a Wendigo might be a better match.
Someone said this bird eats insects, so it's not violent for the fish at least.
