Journalist Taha Bouhafs was arrested while covering a protest in Paris on Oct. 14. “There were very violent arrests, people were getting strangled by the police,” Bouhafs told +972. “I was filming this, and at some point the police came toward me and arrested me. I showed them my press card, but they told me I was not doing a journalist’s job, and that I didn’t have any journalist’s equipment — even though I was using my phone.
“They fined me for participating in an illegal demonstration, even though I showed them my press card,” he continued. “They told me: ‘If we see you again at a protest, we will break your legs.'"

This is becoming an existential fight against authoritarianism.

Palestinians have legitimate reasons to protest but they keep getting mixed in with the "from the river to the sea crowd" remember if your protest allows nazis then it's a nazi protest.

Hard to take them seriously when they act like they are entitled to land that the they lost via conquest after they stuck their nose up at every attempt of negotiation. I haven't seen many Palestinians protesting the government of Gaza.

I don't see a ton of human rights protesters in Israel either. Yeah some exist but by far most Israeli voters seem to support the "Palestinians are sub humans" rhetoric at the voting booth.

Somehow I don't think that you're arguing in good faith, but anyway.. There were many pro Palestine protests in Tel Aviv University and up until recently the biggest protests Israel ever had were against the current government. It's also probably not possible to organise anything when you have to run to a shelter every hour to hide from rockets.

Imagine how much of a bloodthirsty genocidal freak you have to be to casually claim that it’s a totally normal, valid, and morally neutral thing for a population to lose their homes “via conquest”, then compare the people protesting their own ongoing ethnic cleansing by settler colonists to nazis.

There are currently nazis fighting in the Ukrainian army against Russia's imperialist invasion. Would you call the Ukrainian army a nazi army? Maybe the situation calls for us to focus on the state currenlty commiting a genocide against Palestinian people and not on the optics of the protests.

The ones you think “just like punching people” are being beaten and jailed by white Europeans while calling for a cease fire. The people we’re standing shoulder to shoulder with are Jews across the world calling for peace: Jews that you insist can’t exist while a single Palestinian child remains living.

Jews will continue to live in a free Palestine long after the European settler colonial ethnostate called “Israel” is destroyed, and they’ll continue to live in Europe despite Europe’s best efforts to get rid of them.

Western Nazis totally exist as well. But the West actually keeps them in check.

The fuck they're kept in check. Actual card carrying Nazis helped build the post-war western "international rules based order." Even today people with similar ethno-nationalist, settler-colonialist, and fascist ideology are at the highest levels of every western government, big inter-government organization, and corporation. They're starting wars and committing genocides left and right, always have and always will, until they're stopped by national liberation movements and normal everyday working people taking a stand.

Whereas Palestinian liberation is about stopping the bloody genocide against the Palestinian people and once again giving them agency over their own lives - for they haven't had any in generations. That's something we can all stand behind.

They’re not wrong. The US worked very closely with fascists post WW2. High ranking Nazi officials were recruited to run NATO, NASA, and work in many other agencies. It’s not limited to Nazi’s either but other fascists as well. In Japan the US helped a war criminal become prime minister. This guy was literally in Tojo’s cabinet and was a signatory to the declaration of war against the US. Partnering with fascists is something the US still does to this day.

This history isn’t hidden either and the US doesn’t really deny it. However, it’s not exactly something Americans are taught in school.

We're not talking about some nuanced historical take here, we're talking about this guy trying to claim the world is run by Nazis.

Nobody in the west at any high level is running around saying that we should go exterminating all the Jews or the blue-eyed blond haired people are superior to everyone else.

Racist ass Nazi takes are incredibly unpopular and incredibly stigmatized in western culture. The facts of the United States rebuilt Japan and Germany and in the process used their existing leadership has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Explicitly imply is an oxymoron. You can’t accuse someone of making a claim they didn’t make.

I think I see where you’re confused though. Nazism is not the only ethno-nationalist or fascist ideology. Settler colonialism is also not equivalent to fascism or Nazism. These things are related though and people who subscribe to similar ideologies will likely be more sympathetic to Nazism. Thus they’re less likely to take neo-Nazis seriously leading to an actual Nazi problem. However, that doesn’t make them Nazis themselves.

I was going to respond with sources, but I see I've hit a nerve by simply alluding to the fact that colonial states are gonna colonize.

It really goes to show how ingrained fascism and white supremacist is in western society, and that because white people in the imperial core materially benefit from this dynamic, they defend it, even as they're shouting to deplatform Nazis.

I hate hamas, but Israel is currently committing a genocide against Palestinian people in gaza. We should focus on the action of the so called "only democracy in the middle east". Especially because western governments are supporting israel in its actions.

Do not fall for israeli propaganda. The bombing and murder of innocent civilians is a bad thing. Its bad when hamas does it and bad when israel does it, but hamas is a horrible terrorist group and israel is supposed to be a civilized country. We should expect better from such a powerful country as Israel.
