Don't blame the Canadians for showing you what true patriotism means. Blame your dear leader for making you detested by most of the the rest of the world.

"And, you know, at some point, we hope things will get better."

Oh.. it will.. just not for you.

Thoughts and prayers.

I'm really hoping Jack Daniels goes under. The CEO is MAGA. It would be sooooooo funny.

The council says exports to Canada fell 63 per cent last year.

Imagine if your income fell by 63%. It'd probably get your attention.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 24 points 6 days ago

Income from Canada. It's not 63% of their income.

[-] healthetank@lemmy.ca 18 points 6 days ago

I mean this is wine specific, but damn if that's not a major part.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

What a beautiful graph!

Definitely it can be a lot. It could even be the difference between profitable or not for some companies.

[-] socsa@piefed.social 3 points 5 days ago

Apparently not enough for distilleries to get vocal about it. People still fear the MAGA mob and what they did to Bud Light, and it's largely because companies refuse to act in solidarity.

So on on hand, this is great news for many reasons, and I want to thank and congratulate Canadians!

On the other hand, the article indicated that this "devastating boycott" is basically just Canadians. So I have to ask... Canadian's... you all doing alright?

Yes, that’s the point.

Bourbon is my go-to spirit. I haven’t bought a bottle in 16 months.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 5 points 5 days ago

I've been getting it on sale since you guys started this. Which is good with our government finding new ways to be pieces of shit every day.

[-] onlyhalfminotaur@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

American here, is anyone in Canada making a bourbon-like whiskey? Lots of Japanese whiskeys are emulating bourbon.

[-] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 11 points 1 week ago

There are a few that I have come across, but they don't actually taste like bourbon. The ones I have found and tried are 51% corn and 49% barley. Because of the high barley content it tastes more like Canadian whisky than American bourbon.

Most of my bourbon consumption was for old fashioneds, so my replacement for that has been 100% rye whisky. Lot 40 and Canadian Club, specifically.

Yes

[-] onlyhalfminotaur@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

That's cool, brave of them to use "bourbon style".

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Not that brave, and fully accurate.

Yes

yay! One's in stock near me, and we're already out near there tonight so it's easy. I may have to try new things.

It's weird that I grew up in the okanagan - picked grapes for summer cash; ugh - but I never figured they'd do Corn in Vernon. Then again, Shelter Point (yowza) opened up a few meters from the house of a grad-class chum, so I have a trend of moving away from places just as they're getting 'spiritual'. 🙃

Looking forward to trying the BRBN tonight if the BCLDB has it. Thanks for the pointer!

Bridgeland Distillery in Calgary has a Taber Corn whisky which is at least reminiscent of bourbon. Not the real deal, but a fair substitute.

[-] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca -3 points 6 days ago

Ew why? Did you not realize it was American before?

[-] Ariselas@piefed.ca 14 points 1 week ago

That's great!

[-] rozodru@piefed.world 12 points 1 week ago

oh no....anyways
