The absolutely deranged thing is that they established that the Australian public did not vote for Israel (because we have strict anti-burner phone laws preventing Israel agents from spamming).

Then the judges selected by SBS also didn't vote for them, reflecting the popular will of the nation. So it seems like they were picked properly. No mismatch.

Senator, why did the most reviled nation in Eurovision manage to get second place with the “popular vote” and what implications does this have for your own election campaign?

[-] GladimirLenin@hexbear.net 29 points 21 hours ago

she should have laughed in her face and told her to fuck off with her stupid fucking questions about a fucking song contest. also isntrael

[-] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 23 points 21 hours ago

Imagine having to take these questions seriously.

[-] AfricanExpansionist@lemmy.ml 16 points 19 hours ago

That's the thing: She didn't have to!

[-] LittleFellaNamedBoof@hexbear.net 35 points 23 hours ago

I like how she says, "Israel got 0 votes." and then just sits there. As if thats a question. Like, yes they got 0, your point is?

“It’s not possible for us to take away points, or we would have.”

They have been in Eurovision for over 10 years now. They were brought in for the 60th anniversary and never left

It's actually just a singing competition put together by a number of broadcasters who are apart of an international broadcasters union. The title is marketing more than anything.

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 10 points 17 hours ago

total coincidence that all the broadcasters and nations involved are whiteys

[-] XiaCobolt@hexbear.net 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

There's some not white compradors. Azerbaijan has hosted in the past.

[-] Bay_of_Piggies@hexbear.net 3 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

It's not obviously, the standards are set by euro nations. But iirc there are arab nations that could be apart of it, but boycott it because Israel is involved and they refuse to bar them. Go figure.

Critical support to Australia

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 28 points 1 day ago

Why is australia part of eurovision?

[-] homhom9000@hexbear.net 5 points 8 hours ago

Same reason they're on physical 100 Asia

Australia is in every continent

[-] john_brown@hexbear.net 16 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

I keep seeing this question raised on other social media and there's always some nerd who jumps in to explain that ackshully it's just that there's some international media group and Australia and Israel are members of it, but that's just the window dressing. Like everybody else said, the real answer is white supremacy.

edit: lol I have now seen this explanation here as well, do better hexbears

[-] replaceable@hexbear.net 9 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

The media group you are talking about is European Broadcasting Union and Australia actually is not a part of it, Israel is and thats why they can take part. Interestingly a lot of other middle eastern and north african countries are also members of the EBU and could take part in the eurovision but dont do so because of israeli participation

[-] red_giant@hexbear.net 2 points 10 hours ago

We’re being denied Moroccan participation in eurovision just for Israel?

I’m sorry but have you seen their eyes?

[-] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 24 points 22 hours ago

White supremacy

[-] replaceable@hexbear.net 17 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

They were invited as guests, because a lot of people there watched it and then they just stayed

[-] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 23 points 1 day ago

I've meant "mayonnaise tier white" but yours works too

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 47 points 1 day ago

so this makes it seem like online and phone voting outside of Australia were definitely rigged

[-] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 48 points 1 day ago

Where's the countries that obviously don't belong in eurovision solidarity?

Australia is khamas

[-] red_giant@hexbear.net 14 points 21 hours ago

australia is really just britain with sun, and britain left the EU. Brexit means brexit ergo australia should not be in eurovision.

[-] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 32 points 1 day ago

I mean. Isreal is a European colonialist entity so they do belong in euro vision.
