Title. Pisses me off mildly. I've got my earbud in for a reason (quick drive) and Bluetooth decides to connect to the car when it starts. The cars' head unit takes forever to start and have to manually switch over to Bluetooth mode (while the audio is already playing) and the volume is way down.

And when you get out of the car it doesn't automatically connect back to the earbuds.

Just put your car in your ears.

thinking outside the box

For airpods, just double tap the one you have set to Play/Pause and it will resume in your ears.

[-] Sunrosa@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Doesn't it forcibly change the device over though? I think the airpods completely lose bluetooth control after the car "steals focus".

[-] talentedkiwi@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

It might just force the airpods to try and reconnect?

[-] Brunette6256@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

This works for my Sony ear buds too.

[-] Tagger@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I have the opposite of this, i never understand when I see people driving with their earbuds in.

[-] Stubborn9867@lemmy.jnks.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

It's more than mildly when I'm shoveling snow and my wife starts the car to warm up. Every time I get within 10 feet of the car my phone disconnects my earbuds. Same if I'm doing yardwork when she gets home.

Even more annoying because my phone can output to two Bluetooth devices at once. If you think it's so important the new device needs connecting just do both.

But they should never automatically change Bluetooth devices. If I'm getting in the car you can switch devices when I pull out my earbuds and they shut off when I put them in their case.

I've got a slightly different version of this problem. I work from home, and if my wife drives my car out of or into the driveway while I'm on a call, even if I'm in my office in the basement, my phone will disconnect my earbuds and route my audio to my car.

[-] midas@ymmel.nl 1 points 1 year ago

Lmao that's ridiculous

[-] x4740N@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

You must have a strong as fuck Bluetooth signal then if it's going through walls

[-] eroc1990@lemmy.parastor.net 1 points 1 year ago

Depending on where you live, you could be breaking the law. In the USA, doing that in some states is illegal. See here.

Bluetooth for audio might be the worst implementation of a specification every devised. Ridiculous lag, no multipoint connection, no ability to manage or negotiate connections from the device, limited ability to define the connection (audio vs headset among the culprits). BT for audio just seems like a cruel joke.

I remember connecting to my mom's car via bluetooth to play music one day, and then like a year later I visit her again and it starts autoplaying some random shit I was watching on YouTube without any prompt. The prospects of what that might unexpectedly reveal to people are terrifying.

[-] j4yt33@feddit.de 1 points 1 year ago

I mean... just don't watch porn in your mom's car dude

[-] midas@ymmel.nl 1 points 1 year ago

Is that an invite?

[-] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 year ago

Shouldn't drive with earbuds in. Might not hear the horn of the oncoming train. Those things are really quiet. /sarcasm

[-] QuinceDaPence@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Trains are really unpredictable. Even in the middle of a forest two rails can appear out of nowhere, and a 1.5-mile fully loaded coal drag, heading east out of the low-sulfur mines of the PRB, will be right on your ass the next moment.

I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.

Deafening railroad horn. I dumped my wife's pants, unfolded, and dove behind the water heater. It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!

Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?

A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

We have a 2017 prius prime that does this but if nothing is playing it will spool up your iTunes music library and hit play on the first song.

I haven’t used iTunes in ages, so now when I get into drive the car it greets me with Smash Mouth’s timeless classic All Star.
