Yeah it's a long tradition, hundreds of thousands of Swiss people eat dog meat, especially on Christmas. It's a sizeable minority of the population that eat it, same goes for China and Korea; most people don't but it's still relatively common especially in older and more rural folk

im like meh because humans kill billions of pigs, sheeps, cows etc that aren't too different from dogs or cats.
Pigs at least are very close. Cows less so, though that doesn't mean industrial slaughter is okay. Idk about sheep.

They seriously just drop the fact that the South Korean president has SIX dogs and just move on from that. Obviously they're rich and can just pay people to care for them, but that's a lot of animals.

Idk if it's relevant but it's not that strange in rural settings to have a bunch of dogs, not that that's the case here. Just that a family having many dogs isn't so bizarre.

Probably not the case, sure it's a tradition especially in certain parts of the country, but most Koreans nowadays (and the vast majority of young people and urban people) are against it. 80% of Koreans and 70% of Chinese people have never even eaten dog meat in their life, and a lot of them have dogs as pets. Bonds being commonly formed with an animal would pretty much naturally make a group of people value that animal's life more
Also there's a poll showing most young Koreans that have eaten dog meat did so despite not wanting to; only ate it because their elders pressured them to
