Vladimir Lenin's most famous and inspiring quote: "Make a change".

[-] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 18 points 10 months ago

Gonna be hard to get your hands on one in the USA, it's from Russia.

[-] DayOfDoom@hexbear.net 17 points 10 months ago

Seems they're looking for retailers to buy it from them. So either we'll get it via those third-party sellers or maybe Chinese clones of it. Hope so anyway.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 14 points 10 months ago

Oh there will be clones of it in AliExpress for sure lets-fucking-go

[-] polskilumalo@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 10 months ago

I wonder if they will add timebombs to them like with R4 cards :sadness:

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

I forgot about that cri

Russophobia is a real problem and that's what partly makes me afraid to use such things.

[-] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 9 points 10 months ago

Aliexpress comes to the rescue!

the flashcarts for the nintendo ds were the fucking shit, 200+ games on one cart and tons of homebrew to fuck around with. i had an mp3 player app that i used like a total dork looked like an ipod with the track information being on the top screen and an actual touch wheel on the lower screen. don't really see the reason for these things existing nowadays considering you can just buy an old switch and softmod it, but i guess if people can sell something they will

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 1 points 10 months ago

This should work with the switch oled

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

It used to be a big meme with me and my friends (2 of which have switches) that I really fucking wanted a switch because of a bunch of games that only I care about (SMTV, Astral Chain), and while it wasn't a financial issue at all for me to buy it, I just didn't feel like separating with my money.

I did separate with my money to buy a strong ass desktop, that can emulate switch games on Yuzu, and now the meme is dead and so is my desire to get a switch for the most part

Already beat pikmin 1 and astral chain

Oh, by the way, is Kirby and the Whatever-the-hell-it-is-called on sale?

I mean, the newest 3D platformer one?

[-] DayOfDoom@hexbear.net 13 points 10 months ago

I doubt it's on sale though. Nintendo's prices suck fucking ass.

"It fucking sucks! It sucking fucks!"

-AVGN Nerd on Nintendo's prices, probably

Damn, why can't Steam just have their own handheld console instead?

clueless

But it still probably won't have Nintendo first-party games...

We're not buying games any more.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

But someone gave me a Nintendo gift-card so I might as well use it...

We're plunging this world into a Fallout-style apocalypse recession via Nintendo Switch piracy and the only currency that has any value is packets of unused condoms and NOS energy drink cans (used or unused).

Throw it away.

2024's new years resolution is bankrupting Mr. Nintendo.

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 13 points 10 months ago

Tbh, Nintendo deserves a bankruptcy, full-stop

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

#UnionizeNintendo

Or expropriate Nintendo after the revolution or something, idk

[-] SovietyWoomy@hexbear.net 10 points 10 months ago

Hopefully it doesn't get blocked in a stability increasing system update

[-] Pluto@hexbear.net 7 points 10 months ago

Frankly, I'm afraid to use this.

[-] Quexotic@infosec.pub 5 points 10 months ago

I don't understand how this even works. Also, If it works now, shouldn't this be absolutely trivial for Nintendo to overcome with a software update or patch?

[-] NewAcctWhoDis@hexbear.net 6 points 10 months ago

These existed and worked really well on the DS. I'm not sure if they were on the 3DS, because that was so easy to jailbreak that I never bothered. I'm far from an expert but I think they pretended to be a specific real game so it would be hard to block them.

[-] DayOfDoom@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

Sky3DS was the 3DS equivalent.

[-] Quexotic@infosec.pub 1 points 10 months ago

So, all they would really have to do is put serial numbers on the games in the hardware. That's it. They could encrypt it and such a way that would be very difficult to reverse engineer and you're all done. I'd be very surprised if they haven't done this already and I'm interested to learn if this neat little hack continues to work 6 months or a year from now.

My concern with buying something like this is that as soon as Nintendo figures it out, every device that is found to have had one of these on it will stop working forever and every account that is used one of these will likewise stop working forever. You lose all your hardware and all your data. It may be worth looking into if it continues to work once they launch their next system though.

is a flash cart like a modchip from the ps1 era?

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 8 points 10 months ago

No, a flashcart doesn't need to be soldered in like modchips tend to, it's just a game cart with an SD card slot to fill with roms.

[-] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 4 points 10 months ago

Apparently hacking your Switch is already surprisingly doable?

I managed to do it with my 3DS because they basically give you a "explain like i'm 5" manual these days but I'm too much of a bitch to try it with my Switch

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 2 points 10 months ago

The switch is about as easy to softmod as the 3ds if it's from the first year, year and a half of the switch's availability, but Nintendo did a hardware revision after that to make that hack method no longer work on switches produced after that. The plus side is that there's no way for them to patch out the vulnerability on switches that were already out so if you can get your hands on an early model switch it's still hackable, but all the more recent models including all the lites and oleds need a complicated microsoldering heavy modchips physically installed to hack them.

See https://switch.hacks.guide for the easy step by step manual which starts with checking your serial number to see if your switch is old enough to hack the easy way.
