Image is of legal adviser to Israel's foreign ministry Tal Becker and British jurist Malcolm Shaw at the ICJ hearing.

The ICJ case against Israel might not achieve much for the Palestinian cause directly, given that Israeli politicians have explicitly stated that the Hague will not stop them - and I believe them. The Resistance will be what stops them, and they are doing quite well for themselves. Hezbollah has hit highly sensitive and important Israeli military sites over the last couple weeks, and in general persist in several border attacks every day. The battles in Iraq and Syria also continue. Hamas remains largely intact, and is successfully forcing Israeli forces in the northern Gaza Strip to retreat, and other parts of the Gazan Resistance are continuing to battle down in Khan Yunis. And, last but not least, Yemen is firmly dedicated to the blockade, warding off another ship literally minutes before I started writing this paragraph.

What the ICJ is battling over isn't Palestine and Israel - not really - but the legitimacy of international law itself, and to what degree victimized countries can rely on it to solve problems, versus needing to take more militant routes for justice. In a weird sense, it might be an L for Israel either way. If international law sides with Palestine, then when Israel refuses to stop, it will invalidate international law. If international law sides with Israel, then it will invalidate international law. There is no conceivable way for the West to come out of this looking good.

The South African portion detailing Israeli atrocities against Gaza was largely ignored by the western media. They have instead, obviously, decided to focus on the Israeli portion. Their defense appears to amount to "We didn't do it, Hamas did it. And if we did do it, it doesn't matter, because that's just urban warfare for you. Please get this whole thing thrown out on a very dubious technicality so we don't have to advance to the next stage."

From Craig Murray, who has been physically going to the Hague:

It is important to realise this. Israel is hoping to win on their procedural points about existence of dispute, unilateral assurances and jurisdiction. The obvious nonsense they spoke about the damage to homes and infrastructure being caused by Hamas, trucks entering Gaza and casualty figures, was not serious. They did not expect the judges to believe any of this. The procedural points were for the court. The rest was mass propaganda for the media.

...I am sure the judges want to get out of this and they may go for the procedural points. But there is a real problem with Israel’s “no dispute” argument. If accepted, it would mean that a country committing genocide can simply not reply to a challenge, and then legal action will not be possible because no reply means “no dispute”. I hope that absurdity is obvious to the judges. But they may of course wish not to notice it…

What do I think will happen? Some sort of “compromise”. The judges will issue provisional measures different to South Africa’s request, asking Israel to continue to take measures to protect the civilian population, or some such guff. Doubtless the State Department have drafted something like this for President of the court Donoghoe already.

I hope I am wrong. I would hate to give up on international law. One thing I do know for certain. These two days in the Hague were absolutely crucial for deciding if there is any meaning left in notions of international law and human rights. I still believe action by the court could cause the US and UK to back off and provide some measure of relief. For now, let us all pray or wish, each in our way, for the children of Gaza.

Pakistan militants struck by Iran have Israel ties: Amir-Abdollahian | The Cradle

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on 17 January that the militant group targeted by Iran with missile strikes in Pakistan is linked to Israel.

The Iranian foreign minister said Tehran respects Pakistan's sovereignty and continues to have good relations with Islamabad.

The Iranian Minister of Defense, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, repeated Amir-Abdollahian's claim, saying, “Iran respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring countries, but will never accept the presence of machinations and conspiracies on its borders.”

Iran's Tuesday strikes in Pakistan targeted a militant group known as Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni militant and Baluchi separatist organization that operates mainly across the border in southeastern Iran.

Pakistani officials said two children were killed and three others injured, while Amir-Abdollahian said Tehran had not killed civilians. He said Iran "targeted the terrorists in Pakistan (Jaish al-Adl) and not Pakistani citizens."

Formerly known as Jundallah, the group has long-standing ties to Western intelligence agencies. ABC News reported that according to unnamed US and Pakistani intelligence sources, the group has been "secretly encouraged and advised" by the American government since 2005.

The group claims that Iran's Shiite government is oppressing its Baluchi minority and has announced responsibility for bombings, kidnappings, and televised beheadings of Iranian troops and officials.

In 2007, an analysis by Stratfor, a global intelligence consulting firm, noted the US could be using Jundullah as a "poking device" against Iran. The firm said the US "has an interest in demonstrating that it has friends among Iran's minority groups to gather intelligence, stir up public unrest and distract the clerical regime."

But in 2012, Foreign Policy reported that a series of memos written by US intelligence analysts during the last years of President George W. Bush's administration investigated and debunked reports that the CIA was supporting Jundallah. Instead, the memos described how "Israeli Mossad officers recruited operatives belonging to the militant group by passing themselves off as American agents."

Foreign Policy added that the recruitment campaign came amid "a covert, bloody, and ongoing campaign aimed at stopping Iran's nuclear program," which included the assassination of several Iranian nuclear scientists.

Maybe the parliamentarian will tell them it's unconstitutional for the US to stop genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, (D-NY) a longtime champion of Israel, says (to my knowledge for the first time) that there are discussions in the Senate about the possibility of conditioning US aid to Israel.

IRGC claims deadly ballistic missile strikes on Erbil - Rudaw (A northern Iraqi news network)

Peshraw Dizayee, a well-known Kurdish businessman and the owner of Falcon Group which runs major projects such as Empire World, succumbed to his injuries alongside four of his family members around 1:00 am on Tuesday after his house was struck by a missile, former deputy speaker of the Kurdistan Region parliament Hemin Hawrami confirmed on X.

navel gazingAnyone know anything more about this dude or these organizations? It appears like he was a target, not that his house just blew up incidentally. "Falcon Group's" website appears to have received the "your CEO just became international news" hug of death. From a quick glance, "Empire World" appears to be a real estate development outfit based in Erbil. They are a sponsor of the Middle East Research Institute (MERI), a think tank based in Northern Iraq, which has recieved grants from

Iran's Guards attack Israel's 'espionage centers' in Iraq, state media says - Reuters (Archive link)

No U.S. facilities were impacted by the missiles strikes, two U.S. officials told Reuters.

At least four civilians were killed and six injured in the strikes on Erbil, the Kurdistan government's security council said in a statement, describing the attack as a "crime."

Multimillionaire Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee and several members of his family were among the dead, killed when at least one rocket crashed into their home, Iraqi security and medical sources said.

Dizayee, who was close to the ruling Barzani clan, owned businesses that led major real estate projects in Kurdistan.

Additionally, one rocket had fallen on the house of a senior Kurdish intelligence official and another on a Kurdish intelligence center, the security sources said.

Reuters could not independently verify any of the reports. Israeli government officials were not reachable for immediate comment.

US SOP appears to be deny any Ls with regards to Iran, because they know once the hogs get whipped up into a murderous frenzy they will be forced to put their hand in the Gom Jabbar pain box. They did this a couple years back when Iran fired on a US military base in Iraq. Total media blackout.

Newly-Minted Monarch makes manifesto

Christianity, elitism and imperialism are among the values professed in a surprising manifesto published by king Frederik 10., the new supreme leader of Denmark, the enigmatic American puppet state located in the far northwestern outskirts of the Eurasian landmass.

Just days after rising to power in a bloodless but wholly undemocratic transition, Frederik has released a pamphlet containing a series of carefully staged interviews, adding up to a manifesto for his regime and for the ideology he wishes to impose on the Danish people. The pamphlet has vanished from bookstores almost instantly as fanatical regime supporters fervently grabbed copies.

In his manifesto the scribbling Scandinavian sovereign treats readers to an eclectic mix of the bland and unoriginal liberal-conservative clichés that are a hallmark of the elite he was born into. He claims that allegedly Christian values has made the country "free and tolerant" and tells the Danish people to "safeguard the Lutheran-evangelical cultural heritage". He also tilts at a windmill many a reactionary talking head before him has challenged by scolding the Danes for their claimed expectations of humility and lack of enthusiasm for the elite, audaciously demanding praises for "those who succeed".

Not content with just being the supreme leader of the more national conservative segment, Frederik tries to appeal to liberals by attaching himself to the climate struggle but his hollow promises to champion green causes and nature conservation betray a lacking understanding of the urgency of climate change and is likely to be an opportunistic ploy to bolster his regime's popularity by exploiting whatever cause happens to be in vogue.

As for Denmark's colonial dominance over Greenland and the Faroe Islands the romanticising royal is full of praise for it and he talks about wanting to culture bonds between the metropol and the colonies. He doesn't mention the systemic racism and underdevelopment that still permeates the colonial experience, nor does he mention the growing confidence of independence movements there.

His praises for colonialism doesn't stop inside the borders of his own dominion. Despite the normative expectation that a king would feel a sting to his pride knowing that the foreign policy of his kingdom is dictated in Washington DC, the atlanticist autocrat feels nothing of the sort, he is full of praises for "Denmark's role in the world" and although regime propaganda claims the king to be politically neutral he is full of pride over Denmark's subservient participation in America's proxy war in the Ukraine that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

There’s been a lot of talk about the production capacity gap between Russia and NATO as it relates to artillery rounds specifically. Russia has retooled its economy and invested heavily in wartime production and is currently seeing it pay dividends both on the battlefield but also in the overall health of their economy. Meanwhile the NATO nations have refused to make the investment in restarting mass production of rounds, a capability liquidated and sold off under the guiding principles of neoliberalism, and instead has solely relied on draining existing stockpiles bits at a time. The result has been catastrophic for the Ukrainians tasked with dying on NATO’s behalf ever since the initial blitz push from the RusFed was repelled and the war has settled into a WWI style trench and artillery game of attrition.

I think though that we shouldn’t confuse an unwillingness with an inability. There’s no reason to believe that the US or Germany are incapable of making the investment to restart the mass production of artillery shells (or any mass produced weapon of war rather than the big ticket, hyper specialized war toys they prefer now). There’s an entire point to be made that in this moment of profitability crisis the only industries that are succeeding are the ones hand chosen by the state to be made so with direct subsidies and funding (re: Brenner & Riley’s Seven Theses in which they attempt to coin “political capitalism” as the new economic model post-neoliberalism). The general consensus seems to be that there’s so far been an unwillingness to commit to the production process because it’s been thought that the Russo-Ukrainian war will end before the investment will be worthwhile and then the general style of combat will return to anti-insurgency missions relying on drones and laser guided munitions rather than mass produced dumb bombs and shells. My fear is that if this calculation changes and there is heavy investment in restarting the NATO war machine it puts us on the path towards another world war. The European nations may see the success of the Russian economy under wartime policies and see the return of a military Keynesianism as an appealing out to their financial woes but, as we know from the start of the previous century, you can only build up your stock of weapons for so long before the imperative to use them arises. I’m worried that the long duree trends of the 21st century see the return of both multipolarity as well as great powers conflicts, but this time we have nukes. Guess there’s nothing to really do about it tho but enjoy the view posadist-nuke

Possibility of something important - perhaps the US consulate - being hit by big explosions in Erbil, Iraq, by Resistance forces. Possibly even by Iran.

An Al Mayadeen correspondent has heard 7 explosions.

I will delete this if nothing comes of it or if it's fake, which I am currently on the fence about. ~~I very much doubt it's Iran.~~

BEER News

US Anheuser-Busch workers threaten strike

Workers who make Bud Light and other top-selling beers are threatening to strike in demand of significant wage increases, job security and improvements to retirement and benefits in the first big union contract battle of 2024.

Five thousand workers, represented by the Teamsters at 12 Anheuser-Busch breweries in the US, are threatening to strike after voting 99% in favor of a strike authorization last month. Their current union contract is set to expire on 29 February.

”Without a contract by February 29, there won’t be any beer come March,” the Teamsters warned on X.

I hope they win big, but the prospects of no bud are “oh no, anyways”.

🇾🇪 Ansarallah Political Bureau member, Mohammed Al-Bukhaiti: — My message to the people of Western countries.

If another group of humans were subjected to the injustice that the Palestinians are subjected to, we would take action to support them, regardless of their religion and race.

Taking action to support the oppressed on earth, regardless of its risks, is a true test of human morality at the level of individuals and nations, and whoever does not take action to stop the crimes of genocide that we witness daily in Gaza, this means that he has lost his humanity.

Moral and human values are fixed and do not change with the race and religion of the person who benefits from their existence, and dealing with them selectively means losing them.

The expansion of the hegemony of the ruling Zionist cabal in Washington, London, and some other Western capitals, and its control over global decisions, has caused many tragedies throughout the world, starting from South America in the west to the farthest part of Asia in the east.

The reason is dealing with moral values with extreme selectivity that amounts to schizophrenia, to the point that the US Secretary of State declared support for the genocidal massacres committed by Israel under the pretext that they share the same values of freedom and democracy, even though the existence of Israel deprived the Palestinian people of the right to live in their land, and this is the greatest violation of the values, freedom and democracy.

If the Western peoples, led by the American and British people, do not move to restore their humanity, then the tragedies caused by their governments outside their borders will spread to their countries, and the rise of the extreme right and the war in Ukraine are one of those indicators.

We are not hostile to the American or British people, but rather to the ruling Zionist gang that takes advantage of the capabilities of Western countries, which they did not realize, to suppress the freedom of other peoples and conspire against them.

The Zionist gang's ability to mislead people exceeds its military capabilities, so victory over it on the awareness front is more important than victory over it on the military front.

The Zionist gang misled public opinion to justify the occupation of Iraq under the pretext of the existence of chemical weapons and the presence of Al-Qaeda, and when it was proven that these claims were false, it disavowed responsibility for the tragedies that befell Iraq simply with one word, “We made a mistake,” in order to continue causing more tragedies.

During the occupation of Iraq, I was living in the Netherlands, and I personally witnessed the state of awareness among Western peoples opposing the occupation, which exceeded 70%. This event was sufficient to create a permanent awakening that would result in profound positive changes at the level of the structure of the ruling elite in Western countries and at the level of the structure of the international system, except The Zionist gang resorted to bringing in Al-Qaeda members and creating a suitable environment for its growth in Iraq as a front for resistance ,to stir up strife among the people, which constituted a shock and a state of confusion for the anti-war activists, who were waiting for the launch of a moral and conscious Iraqi resistance, and then they saw Al-Qaeda committing the most heinous crimes.

Today, we reassure all the free people of the world that the extent of the courage of the Yemeni people in confronting the Zionist gang, is the extent of their adherence to moral and humanitarian values and their unlimited willingness to sacrifice, in order to achieve a just peace that guarantees the dignity, safety and security of all countries and peoples.

The first step towards achieving this goal is serious Western popular action to put pressure on the Zionist gang to first paralyze its ability to harm the Western citizen who opposes it, and work to expose its crimes and the falsity of its claims, until stopping the crimes of genocide in Gaza, allowing the entry of food, medicine and fuel to its besieged population.

Western peoples must draw inspiration from the experience of the Yemeni people in steadfastness in the face of the huge Zionist military machine.

Pakistan and Iran have already reestablished all diplomatic ties after the earlier incidents. From journalist in Sana'a

Special sources tell me that if the aggression continues on Gaza, Yemen and Lebanon, Ansarullah/Houthis will seriously consider taking steps towards imposing what they are calling “The Al Aqsa Triangle.” The Al Aqsa Triangle is the official closure of three of world’s most important water chokepoints which includes the Suez Canal the Strait of Hormuz and Bab El Mandeb to all nations involved in the aggression. #Al_Aqsa_Triangle

https://nitter.net/Ymawryy/status/1748626517796552880#m

Do the Houthis have the ability to shut down the Straight of Hormuz? I guess for all these it would just take a pirate crew to take a few ships and the insurance companies won't cover trips made there. But that's a lot of distance from Houthis home port.

His Eminence Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah on November 11, 2023

Full speech English transcript link

"Brothers and sisters, the battlefield in Lebanon determines the next steps. This battle is not like other battles – I do not announce the steps and the brothers executing them. Our policy in the current battle is based on the field developments. Based on the developments of the field, we act accordingly. That is why eyes must always be on the field and not the words the come from us.

If we bring together all the scene that we started from Gaza to the West Bank, to Yemen, to Iraq, to Iran, to Syria, to Lebanon, we say that we are in a battle of resistance, steadfastness, patience, accumulation of achievements, collection of points, and a battle of time. Time is always a need for resistance movements and peoples. Time is what helps defeat invaders and tyrants.

...

Patience and steadfastness must continue. We must all bear, and the people of Gaza and the resistance are the ones bearing most."
