It’s funny they’re still boycotting the NFL. They all supposedly finished boycotting it during the kneeling and BLM controversies that occurred years ago.

They’re essentially opting out of all of the cultural ties they had to America at large. They only want to associate with their own cultists. Aside from the irony of them creating a safe space, they’re also creating a breeding ground for militants and extremists. It’s no surprise we had a guy chop his dad’s head off for being a government employee.

That's quite a bomb to drop in your last sentence. Gonna need a source on that one.

I thought we were all looking at the same 10 posts here!

This is exactly how it feels 😂 compared to Reddit, I actually really enjoy that. This still has a cozy community vibe, kinda like Reddit did back in 2012 or 2013. Then it all just kinda fractured. Not really a bad thing, as Reddit hosts so many close community, but I do miss how it felt in its earlier years where the entire site had this kinda kindred feeling about it.

I hope we all get to experience this more one day when we completely bungle an attempt to correctly identify a domestic terrorist

I really wish it had a 3 hour option

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

I think that would be closer to Active, but I honestly can't say how that one is sorted

Happened yesterday, indoctrined right wing self proclaimed conspiracy theorist son killed his "traitor" father and showed the severed head on YouTube for a few hours.

[-] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

Yet they're the ones who think everyone else is destroying America. Not sure how many leftists have severed the heads of their fathers to date...

[-] Szymon@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Keep in mind that their America IS being destroyed. They're happy in an American where they are free to judge and hate people. The rest of us aren't, it's being taken back, and they're putting up a fight for it.

They don't get that they'll be just fine when they realize they can stop hating people who have nothing to do with their lives.

[-] BakerBagel@midwest.social 4 points 9 months ago

Their version of America never existed. It's always been ahit ti be a working class person, regardless of race. LBJ didn't try to enact his Great Society programs because working America was doing so well.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Yeah I had to check out after that.

Too much.

[-] TurboDiesel@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

33 year old in Buck's County, PA. He filmed a 15 minute YouTube video holding his father's severed head. The Advocate is the only source I've seen so far, sorry. But I have seen the YT video and it's beyond fucked.

This is my favorite part.

"Politics in my sports?!" And then they snowflake about this

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 36 points 9 months ago

It feels like people learned nothing from 2016 and 2020. Conservatives always say and do stupid-ass shit in election years to get people riled up and distracted, with the eventual goal being to overwhelm you. This is just the first and most mellow of the crazy things we will see in an election cycle. It would really be best for the entire world if everyone just ignored the dumb things that these people say, instead of spreading it across the internet, and across the globe. Remember the wisdom of ages, do not feed the trolls.

[-] frickineh@lemmy.world 18 points 9 months ago

This is all so confusing to me because Taylor Swift is so much more famous than Travis Kelce that there's literally no reason they'd need to go through all the trouble of rigging (likely multiple) games for her to do anything. She could just do it at any time. It's such a dumb theory because there's not even one plausible thread.

[-] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

I don't see how this is even relevant. We know her political stance. She's already on "national TV" any time she wants. What's she gonna do, play the long con and turn the whole team gay? Oh, right, they got riled up when she told fans to register to vote and the GOP shook in their boots because their #1 and #2 tools are both forms of voter suppression with one being gerrymandering and the other being bOtH sIdEs anti-voting apathy. So any visibility is bad visibility for them. Either that, or, again, there's shadier shit being passed in congress next week.

[-] TooLazyDidntName@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Taylor swift audience and NFL audience are likley very different.

[-] LesserAbe@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

The message is right and lol @people mad that Taylor Swift is dating a football player.

That said, the original meme format is the first person stating a position, the second person asking an innocent question, and the first person thinking about it and getting mad because in order to answer they would be exposing the ridiculousness of their position. This particular instance of the meme isn't as effective because it's just the second person telling the first person they're wrong. Not that that isn't correct, just it's not as funny or memorable as the original format.

[-] ToucheGoodSir@lemy.lol 2 points 9 months ago

Meme Nazi in the thread. But you're right, misuse of the format

[-] schnapsman@feddit.de 7 points 9 months ago

I wonder if by boycotting they'll find interest in other sports where the league doesn't own all of the teams.

[-] TurtleJoe@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

The NFL doesn't own the teams. The teams, collectively, own the NFL.

[-] schnapsman@feddit.de 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Fair enough, but the result is the same. The teams aren't clubs and are beholden to a closed single entity, big asterisk next to the Packers.

  • sent by person who previously swore off the NFL after Kaepernick and some commercial they considered "too woke" but has been watching after missing a game or two.
[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago

I've got a buddy I've known for over 20 years who has been boycotting the NFL. He used to be the commissioner of our fantasy football league, which is made up of 12 of us guys going back to college. The fantasy league is kind of a glue that holds us all together, giving us an excuse to meet up for beers once a year and then talk shit all throughout the football season.

But this guy swore off football, which effectively cut him off from our social group. He doesn't understand how we're all continuing with the league, meeting for beers, and in general just living like we were before. To him, the NFL has committed the ultimate crime of going "woke" and we should stop supporting it, even if it means giving up relationships that we've been maintaining for decades.

I just don't get how people get so brainwashed. But honestly, it's both scary and sad.

[-] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I just can’t imagine what someone’s bar is for them to consider the NFL “woke.” Sorry you’ve had to deal with that. I know it’s easy to be flippant and just say “well that doesn’t sound like a good friend/person good riddance.” But it’s never that simple.

[-] Fermion@feddit.nl 1 points 9 months ago

They can quit anytime they want. In fact, they've quit 4 times this year already.

[-] umbrella@lemmy.ml 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

to be fair boycotting is difficult to be made effective at all.

[-] JCreazy@midwest.social 3 points 9 months ago

Just think about all the people that made a stink over bud light. Most of those people went back to drinking it.

[-] CoffeeJunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

...that's not even true. 🤨 The boycott holds. It was entirely too simple, to pick up a different beer instead of another. They overplayed their hand. Admittedly there's just a number of them that were not well informed enough to be effective; they switched to another piss beer owned by the same parent company (AB-InBev).

They lost a lot of money & there was even a call to hold the line until x # of months in, so the brand is not picked up for reorder, loses shelf space in retail. Modelo Especial has overtaken Bud Light as the #1 beer in America, and I don't think that's changed. Ironically Modelo is brewed, sold by AB-InBev globally...but not in the US. It's not good times for AB-InBev; they recently sold off 8 brands to a Canadian weed company.

There have been numerous attempts to woo conservatives to end the boycott. Funny ads, football player ad, manly ads with Harley Davidson & horses & American flags. But no formal apology has been issued, which is what most of the boycotters are calling for. Now they're going to the opposite extreme & giving a sponsorship to Shane Gillis, who's basically the anti-Dylan Mulvaney. So idk what'll happen to the boycott now! It'll be an interesting watch. 🍿😃🍿

[-] SuicideSorcerer@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

I’ve seen people say that a lot recently but in my anecdotal experience the people that stopped drinking bud light are still headstrong about it. What are you basing that off of?

[-] A7thStone@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Yeah, they switched to Busch Light to stick it to the man.

[-] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

"Your boycotts are ineffective because of the size of the companies involved!"

What's that you say? A Keurig you just bought to break?
