Imagine getting told by a judge that you're liable for rape, and then turning around and asking the judge if you can skip out on your rape-payment.
Because he didn’t do it, you see, and if he did, it’s because she deserved it. He’s upset because for some reason the judge and the rest of the world don’t understand this and it’s not fair to him.
I hate how not far from the truth this most likely is.
It’s insane how our legal system works. Overly complex and benefits those who can afford the best lawyers. The prison system in the USA is also really messed up. I don’t understand how we’ve managed to turn everything, literally everything, into a squeeze on the classes to get every last cent from every angle. People are sick of ‘hustling’ and want justice, equality, opportunity to work and provide for their own. Sigh.

I hope one of the many, many court actions against him actually manages to make him face some real consequences that will cause a measurable impact on him and his behaviour.

He's obviously deeply upset about the outcome of the NYC thing. I don't think he cares about the criminal aspects but having to pay $450m in penalties is a bitter pill.
Impacting his behavior is a difficult one. He tends to just double down when things go wrong. I do like to think that his opportunities will start to diminish. By that I mean it's possible that a few wealthy power brokers might decide that they're not going down with his sinking ship.

The legal system is bananas. Appeals are one thing, an "administrative stay of enforcement" 25 days after the judgement is just confusing. I don't understand why that would get approved in any scenario.
It gets approved often, especially if the remedy is something other than monetary compensation. For example, if the remedy is that the court granted specific performance of a contract by a non-performing party, that's not like money where if it turns out to be granted by mistake it can be given back
There was zero chance it was going to be granted in this case and any competent lawyer would know that, especially before Judge Kaplan.

The literal first sentence from wikipedia. It's a specific kind of exploited state. Using it as a catch-all for unpopular or unstable governments dilutes the terminology. Which is what's happening, as shown by the rest of the wiki page. It's not, like, an official classification and you're not the only one to denigrate the US with that label but it seems dishonest and reductive. Our problems are largely internal and would exist with no foreign influence or global economy.
