The RCMP plans to launch a direct recruitment stream for people who want to work in federal policing, one that would send them through a specialized training program and skip the 26 weeks' instruction at the depot.

So our cops are going to get even less training now?

It takes EIGHT YEARS of training just argue about the law in a court room, but six short months and you can go out and enforce the law with deadly weaponry.

It's only for the Federal side, "which investigates terrorism and other threats to national security, along with high-level organized crime and cybercrime"

These are computer detectives, not uniforms with a gun.

Mounties require far more training, earn less, work more broadly, need more security checks, and have less support than metro cops.

It's baffling how they want to recruit people when cities are gaga about getting pricy metro cops to soak in the lo¢al connections.

Let's conscribe their work function to only federal only major crimes, then, because having a direct progressive route from rookie to federal investigator that leverages experience is .. dumb?

This is the best summary I could come up with:

According to the latest figures, the RCMP is falling short of baseline staffing levels across Canada, leaving detachments shorthanded and possibly putting public safety at risk.

The recent inquiry into the mass shooting in Nova Scotia, which left 22 people dead in the spring of 2020, dealt a body-blow to the RCMP's reputation as a provider of local policing services.

While he awaits a mandate letter from Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, he's on a mission of his own to make a career in the RCMP more attractive to a wider range of people.

The RCMP plans to launch a direct recruitment stream for people who want to work in federal policing, one that would send them through a specialized training program and skip the 26 weeks' instruction at the depot.

Blackmore spoke to CBC while travelling with the commissioner to view a performance of the RCMP's Musical Ride at James Smith Cree Nation — a community still grieving after a stabbing spree last year left 11 dead and 18 injured.

Instead of relying on some glossy ad campaign, she's sending serving Indigenous officers across the province to speak with prospective candidates and help applicants in remote locations with their paperwork.

The original article contains 1,600 words, the summary contains 190 words. Saved 88%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

I remember the last time this happened, around 2008. Back then of course, Surrey, BC was RCMP, and nobody wanted to be stationed there.
