of all the posts, too! what, have tankies developed seismic powers and are causing earthquakes along the west coast? was this caused by Russia and thus a threat to People of NATO?
I'm both mildly miffed and rather proud of the fact that the news comm modbox has been very quiet over the entire duration thus far in regards to the federation considering the crowd of barflies we got here.
Lo and behold though, much like a bear coming out of hibernation being very famished, our posters have decided to go forth in a rampage to find the most tastiest of hogs to feast on.

I never have any idea how bad earthquakes are just by the number. Is 5 a lot? It sounds like a lot. 5 for hurricanes is a lot.
The moment magnitude scale is logarithmic and 6ish is when you start usually seeing serious damage, but stuff around 5.5 can still cause landslides and fuck shit up pretty good.
The scale goes to 10 so 5 is half way, I'd imagine it's substantial enough to feel it.
A 10 is 30 million times as strong as a 5 and has not occurred in human history. The moment magnitude scale goes to 10.6 though.
It'd be nice to have a unified scale for these things.
Bet it'd be a real headache for the scientists that have to implement it too.
What's scary is these crazy Hurricanes are caused by man made climate change and could be mitigated , but earthquakes are a force of nature

Yeah Portland, Oregon is probably going to be wiped off the map at some point. They're predicting a 9.0+ quake here at some point at there's barely any seismically sound infrastructure.
Fuck man. Socialism can't prevent earthquakes, but I think it could at least make every building seismically sound.
