Funnily enough, the french version teaches English

[-] infeeeee@lemm.ee 52 points 1 year ago

Wikipedia has a long list about different language versions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dora_the_Explorer#Foreign_adaptations

Tldr: in non-english versions, usually the second language is English. Exceptions: Serbian and Irish teach Spanish, Kannada version teaches Hindi.

I am pretty sure the Slovenian version also teaches Spanish. It's not on the list though so can't be sure.

It's supposed to be a picture of someone else when the text credits Abe.

I can confirm that this post and its image content does in fact really exist here on the internet.

I like how the Malaysian TV guide is in English

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Excerpt from the Wikipedia article Languages of Malaysia:

English is widely understood and spoken within the urban areas of the country; the English language is a compulsory subject in primary and secondary education. It is also the main medium of instruction within most private colleges and private universities. English may take precedence over Malay in certain official contexts as provided for by the National Language Act

Given that and the fact that the people of Malaysia speak several different first languages but the overwhelming majority speak English as a second language, it's not much of a stretch for there to be English sections of their TV guide 🤷

One of the many boons of colonialism.

Tell me you've never been to Malaysia without telling me you've never been to Malaysia.

[-] 9point6@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

Well tbh, I've not ever been, and I think that probably applies to the vast majority of people

But hey, you seem familiar with it so let's go:

If I were to visit Malaysia where is (in your opinion): one place I have to visit, one food I can't miss and one piece of advice you'd give every visitor that they don't ever seem to know?

Looks like astro is a real TV channel in Malaysia as is unifi. Either someone did their homework or this is as real as it is funny.

That reminds me of a person telling me that a screenshot of an email was fake, when I, myself had taken said screenshot.
