Basic training in the American army doesnt really do much either from what im told. basic training is more or less indoctrination and brainwashing moreso than making you a battle ready soldier

i genuinely dont like reading about how ukraine is going to lose/win, how great/awful russia is doing, it's depressing.

Being able to fold your underwear into a perfect 4-inch square and align the backs of your shoes to your bedposts are valid life skills!

If you can fold underwear you can fold the American flag. What more is there?

This is pretty much correct. You really don’t get actual training to be a soldier until you join up with a combat unit. So like a mechanized, light infantry, or airborne unit.

US commanders said the same thing during Iraq and Afghanistan. Do you know what happened? They made them shorter. The reality is that many young Ukrainians don't want to fight this war. And no amount of weapons is going to help the anti Putin faction.

It's ok though a couple of F-16s will turn things right around

Ukraine has already won psychologically. They don't need to win in the materium.
