Fun fact: almost no country has legal requirements to operate a forklift. But almost every country requires your employer to "properly instruct" you in the use of heavy machinery, and for reasons of legal ass covering, they all use external certification.

But there is basically nothing preventing you from some private recreational forklift operating

That sounds like a horrible idea. If you operate a forklift without proper training, some really bad stuff can happen.

Sometimes you gotta bring up the classics, maybe someone still hasn't seen it and will be one of today's lucky 10,000. (:

I am so happy to say I am one of today's 10,000. That chainsaw torpedo at the end had me ROLLING.

See, Germans do have humor. We made this. That's enough to last us a couple decades surely.

I thought this was going to be the Michael Scott operating a forklift video https://youtu.be/6Sb9LZj9-Cw?feature=shared

[-] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 22 points 2 years ago

Nope, don’t even need anything other than payment to drive away with one, hell you can even rent heavy machinery with no licenses.

Remember kids, if you’re going to learn to operate heavy machinery, use someone else’s first!

[-] mycelium_underground@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

And watch a whole lot of YouTube videos!

[-] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 6 points 2 years ago

This part is optional if you are using someone else’s equipment

[-] xx3rawr@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

But I wanna watch some Youtube videos not related to forklifts

[-] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 1 points 2 years ago

I said optional

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Alright so here's a hot take for you, operating a forklift isn't hard. Literally just go slow and pay attention and you'll be fine.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Uh... there's quite a few more things than that

[-] bizzle@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

You're right, you also have to pull assorted clearly labeled levers. But I put that under "pay attention"

I've been driving a forklift for like 12 years at various places, and I'm stupid as fuck. It's not hard.

Holy shit, this is the most "this is fine" meme I've ever seen! :-P

But to add a splash of color:

As a person that has worked in a factory with lead for years, this one definitely hits home, yikes.

[-] NoIWontPickAName@kbin.earth 7 points 2 years ago

There’s a fucking lead mine around here somewhere and they don’t even pay their employees as much as I make chucking boxes in a trailer
