Suddenly, Todd Howard decides to release another mod-breaking update!
I hope those days are numbered for a little while since they made a clean cut on Creation Engine 2. The whole mess of backporting newer Creation Engine versions to older games should be settled.
It happened recently with NV
Pretty sure that was FO4, Bethesda wouldn't touch NV with a 10 foot pole.
NV and FO4 both got updates within the last year IIRC
When exactly? I can find game updates for FO4 but not for NV.
Fo3 had a small update recently to get rid of Games For Windows Live and to fix Windows 10/11 compatibility.
The FNV update was probably something similar.
Ah checked the wrong version of NV, no updates for the CIS version (or however it's called) but the regular version had a update in February.
Maybe I am conflating things, there was a fallout in London. Was that for 4?
Are you thinking of the recent update to 4 to bring it to the latest version of Creation Engine 1?
Its been 2 months, we still dont have Fallout London. I was so excited too. Fuck him and his lies
That wasn't exactly on Todd Howard, though? There was going to be a new update for Fallout 4, and everyone, especially every modder, knew that for at least a year beforehand.
There are 5 other even larger projects in development other than Fallout London, Fallout London was the only one to come out and blame Bethesda for a foreseeable delay.
It's kind of insane the amount of work people will do for free, just for the hell of it. I mean, just thinking of my own small world of tabletop RPG gaming and the number of people GMing and writing up stuff that they just give out for free is kind of heartwarming. It's this weird drive to create and make storytelling worlds that other people can get lost in. I've worked on projects like that before and put shit tons of time and effort into them, not even considering that anybody might ever want to give me money for them (though likely it probably wouldn't even be legal in this case without working directly with Bethesda and getting into licensing and such). Sometimes it's just fulfilling to get lost working on a project that you love.
This is our innate state, IMO. We are social, creative people. The impulse to help and participate comes first and then is warped by our societal structure where everything gets monetized. I follow the Skyrim mod scene just for that hit of seeing this generosity at play
There was a whole standaone mod, Falskaar I think, was made by some guy whose parents bank rolled him, including paying a salary, to make the mod, hire voice actors etc. There was all this hype around what is possible when you're... infinitely bank rolled by wealthy parents.
Right. Now hold onto it and remember it when someone tells you "people don't want to work" or "if we had basic income, people would just sit around eating Cheetos all day"
This will be better than TES6, guaranteed.
I remember reading about this mod years ago when it was still in early development, can't believe it actually has a release date. It's always nice to see one of these huge Skyrim mod projects actually make it to release.
Damn, March 2025 feels like such a long time away.
