UK exit poll (hexbear.net)

Article

  • An exit poll carried out by polling company Ipsos, and paid for by the BBC, ITV and Sky says Starmer’s Labour Party will win the general election with 410 seats. The final outcome of the election should be clear by early on Friday.
  • The exit poll put the Conservatives on 131 seats – its worst-ever performance – and the Liberal Democrats on 61. Support for the Scottish National Party (SNP) was predicted to have slumped to just 10 seats, compared with 48 at the last election.
  • Polls closed at 10pm (21:00 GMT) after millions of voters cast their ballots across the UK in a snap general election called by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
  • Voters were deciding whether the Conservative Party leader would remain in the top job or if Keir Starmer, head of the main opposition Labour Party, would become prime minister.
  • Issues such as the cost of living, healthcare and housing have dominated voters’ concerns.

I've never been so unenthusiastic about the Tories eating shit. Starmer's Labour will barely be any better, the man believes in nothing.

Thats not true! He's a true believer in capitalism and super pro genocide!

His dad was a toolmaker though! I mean, he made him, after all.

It's hard to enjoy Sunak's suffering when Starmer is just a slightly different chud.

Besides which, Sunak doesn't have emotions so theres no joy to be found in his sadness.

Prediction: Starmer takes a stronger stance in support of Israel in order to shore up votes for becoming Prime Minster. 😞

In another brilliant policy manoeuvre Kier manages to co-opt more Tory policy by bringing in national service, but in support of Israel, it’s actually compulsory service for British citizens in the IOF.

I hate triangulators. "We have these votes, bad the Tories are being voted for by racists. If we start being racist, then we can get the Tory vote."
"What about the people who are voting for us now?"
"What do you mean?"

An amazing day for the Electoralism libs who view politics as a team sport. They get to feel good about their colour tie lifting the trophy for a few days, before the weeks and months pass and they notice that fundamentally nothing has changed.

Well who am I kidding, they won’t consciously notice, but they will quietly stop ”caring” about a lot of choice issues; as the glorious project of Cameron-ism continues with all its austerity, and all of the cruelty, continued decay and extraction that entails, as well as the continued ramp up of anti immigrant rhetoric, transphobia, the anti worker policies and the crackdown on dissent and protest.

Corbyn might get an independent seat. Exit polls say it's too close to call between him and the Labour ghoul he's against. The ghoul has ghosted Corbyn's call to debate multiple times, because they have explicit ties to private healthcare corporations.

Anyway... I am so unenthusiastic on Labour, yet I suckered up and gave them a tactical vote because they're just barely better than Lib Dems who were closely contesting them in my area. Immediately after voting I wanted to go take my vote back. They represent me on almost no major issues at all. Fucking useless. Next time I'll go Green.

Oh.. also, exit polls have Reform (racist party) getting 13 seats to Green's 2. Climate change? Eh. Racism? Bing bing bing.

EDIT: Corbyn easily beats labour ghoul, and reform go even with Greens. There's silver linings.

long-corbyn wins Islington North. Get wrecked Labour ghouls.

Labour are underperforming then, right? I don't think Conservatives were expected to get triple digit seats a few weeks ago.

[-] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 26 points 2 years ago

Yea, most polls had them at 100-90 seats with a few under 50, its an exit poll so it can still change but it looks like the tories get to survive for a bit

[-] The_Worst@feddit.nl 5 points 2 years ago

What usually happens is that when people expect their party to win with a landslide they can't be bothered to vote unlike people whoms party is at a loss.

If only this were the Labour Party from 79 years ago

[-] OrionsMask@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

As much as I'm glad to see the Tories out after 14 years, I feel like we've now fully settled into a "Democrat/Republican" dichotomy. Team sports, team colours, but no functional difference in policies between parties. Labour will leftwash right wing policies so that the Tories can become even more extreme in a few years time. No joy in seeing red today.

But fuck you Keir Starmer, Corbyn lived.

As far as I can understand more like democrats, which makes them libertarian outside the US where being pro choice means your tax cuts don't count

[-] Saeculum@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

Classical liberals. They're socially progressive capitalists.

I feel like this lays bare that Britons mostly vote against rather than for.

American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
