antifascist themes? sicko-yes environmental preservation subtext? jerma-herbivore coming of age story where characters actually act their age? mario-thumbs-up che guevara character that monologues about what the events mean? joker-che FLYING SURFING MECHA? lets-fucking-go banger fucking soundtrack? spongebob-party

ok downsides are - the first 10 episodes are pretty rough honestly aside from the first two. weird 2000s anime tropes and some anime weirdness with women but this does develop out well as the characters do. some of the characters are strange stereotypic designs (black guy who djs and wears basketball shirt) but the characters absolutely are not standard tropes in their own way.

either way i recommend a watch and try not to cringe too much during the first arc

Renton is the pissbaby character from prozd

Eureka7 was the shit tho. Like futuristic antifa vanlife.

the eng VO for renton just makes him sound like a fuckin babby

the jp VO is way better at this, he seems a lot less bratty (he is literally a child though)

Also OP forgot the PURE LOVE SIDE COUPLE SLOW BURN ROMANCE.

For those who have seen I'm talking about

spoilerBest girl Anemone voiced by Ami Koshimizu doing her best crazy girl. When her and Dominic reunite it's a 10/10 kino moment

Sorry but I am too busy watching peak, like rent-a-girlfriend. Which has one of the best commentaries on capitalist society and how it ruins interpersonal relationships while also making them into a commodity!!! so-true /j

Absolute classic, also did the whole alien species that's also an energy source and also a waifu and also named coral thing 20 years before Fromsoft did the same in Armored Core 6

[-] booty@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago

ok so the reasons i havent watched it

  1. this is my first time hearing about it

  2. big robot is not a genre im especially into

[-] shath@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

it's about people, not so much the big bobot (though they are important to the setting in their own way)

[-] shath@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

[-] Red_sun_in_the_sky@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

[-] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

damn I remember watching this on toonami back when it first aired and remembered liking it but not picking up on the based themes

[-] shath@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

the only mecha series that's like "war is bad" and the characters actually act like it

I love Eureka Seven so much! A simple sweet love story that hits me in the feels a little too hard. Not to go off topic, but have you ever seen Xam'd? A lot of people compare it to Eureka Seven for some odd reason. Not many people saw it when it came out because it was released exclusively on the Ps3 streaming service that Sony tried to push a long time ago.

[-] shath@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

yeah with some decent world building and good character arcs aside

never seen xam'd, but that looks interesting. bones in the early 2000s was cooking

It's been a long time. Loved it when I was a kid - Adult Swim had some real solid picks.

[-] Guamer@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

Great show! Think I watched it on Adult Swim back in the day. The main romance is very sweet...and Lovecraftian star aliens!

[-] shath@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

spoilerthey just wanna be friends

[-] Red_sun_in_the_sky@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

The main romance is sweet

Oh yeah I even remember old amvs on youtube with eureka and renton. Lol. I think one of them is still up its one with everytime we touch by cascada

[-] AstroStelar@hexbear.net 1 points 3 months ago

What is meant by "characters actually act their age"? I have watched barely any anime, so I don't know.

[-] shath@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

as in the 14 year old acts like a 14 year old, the 28 year old acts as such also. anime is full of shows that has a young protag that is just the worlds smartest best boy and not someone who's frontal lobe has not developed
