I posted this through Jerboa and filled out the alt text field accordingly.

Could you give me some feedback on it, is it visible for you? I could only see the alt text through a long press on the image in the web client...

EDIT: ofc simply adding it to the post body as well is a solution, but ATM I'm interested in the "integrated" alt text field and how visible that is for others

[-] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 months ago

I'm using Voyager, and I can't see any alt text. Long pressing does nothing, and obviously I can't hover on mobile.

[-] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Tap on the picture, you'll see it on the bottom. Tap on that text area and the rest will show.

Formatting seems all goofed up, but it works.

My opinion on the meme aside.

[-] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Nope. Tapping the picture just opens it with no text here. Voyager on Android.

[-] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's what I'm using as well, Voyager on Android.

[-] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

I'm on the same Voyager version, but tapping the picture just gives me the picture with no text.

I took a screenshot, but I can't see a way to embed it - never mind, closing my keyboard gave me the image, attachment, and formatting options back. The screenshot should be here:

[-] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

I see it. I'd report it to the dev, would be good for them to know why it isn't working for you.

[-] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Yeah, it's a bit odd, this image is showing for me, but others that I've tried to embed in the same way haven't shown up in the past.

I'll report it to them 👍

hmm :/

was able to get this in the web client

mb additionally putting it in the post body would be a good idea for future posts?

[-] Tippon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 months ago

mb additionally putting it in the post body would be a good idea for future posts?

I've seen that a few times on other posts. If there's text in the body already, the alt text has been separated, but I don't think there's a standard yet

[-] Klaymore@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

Ironically, on Jerboa I don't see any alt text.

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 5 points 2 months ago

Works perfectly for me accessing an mbin instance through my browser. There's an "alt" button on the bottom right of the image that displays it

[-] oscardejarjayes@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I'm on the web on computer, and I see the alt text when I hover over the image.

[-] WarlordSdocy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I don't see it by default on Sync but if I go into the menu and click view image then the alt text is there.

[-] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

I am on Jerboa, where is the alt text? Is it some submenu?

[-] orca@orcas.enjoying.yachts 25 points 2 months ago

They say it because it makes them feel better. Deep down they know that their vote most likely means nothing within a system where the duopoly will never allow their power to be voted away. They say things like this to quell their own feelings of powerlessness.

[-] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Abstaining from voting won't fix the duopoly though. What it will do is keep a fascist from power.

[-] WarmApplePieShrek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 23 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

They're right though. Voting and organizing are independent actions. You can not vote and not organize, not vote and organize, vote and not organize, or vote and organize. The liberal wasn't going to organize no matter what, but at least they voted. If you're organizing, you can vote, too.

"Don't vote because you organizing is better" is a stupid propaganda line designed to help Trump win.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Or made by delusional accelerationist leftists.

Or made by leftists, who see the left as a "closed-gate community", who also don't organize besides the few reading nights with other theory nerds.

[-] Flyberius@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Same energy as, "why don't you become massively rich and then change the system from the inside..." My step dad says that all the time when suggesting I get a job in a huge corporation.

In Canada, there used to be Residential School. My granny went to one. They were pretty horrific to say the least. There were people, at the time, who thought entering them and reforming from within was what to do.

Of course, in reality, the only morally correct option was abolition and - eventually - that's what happened. They had some other levers to pull on the oppression machine like starlight tours and the 60s scoop and so on, but Residential School had only one morally correct position and it was not "reforming from within"

[-] WarmApplePieShrek@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 2 months ago

That's the "organize, don't vote" energy

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 18 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

All the while the overton window gradually shifts to the far right. We're at the point where the country is funding a literal genocide but libs still refuse to organize.

I'd say they'd only start if Red Man is doing it instead of Blue Man, but even that's a stretch.

@Awoo put it betterFor the revleft participation in the system is endorsement of it.

You can't tell people to vote in one election and then tell people that actually it needs to be overthrown and think that's going to happen 5 years later.

At some point or another you just have to commit to it being broken and build your movement based entirely on the fact that it is broken and can not be supported in any way whatsoever.

You are not convincing anyone that there is a need for revolution by telling them that actually there is a reason to participate in the system that you want revolution against. Maybe that passes among very well educated theory-heads but it does not work when you exit theory spaces and start talking to the masses.

[-] Arcturus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

These shitlibs will also go out of their way to defend this genocidal pig online instead of spending that time going out and organizing to take direct action.

[-] Shiggles@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago

And you’ve done what exactly?

[-] Alsephina@lemmy.ml 11 points 2 months ago

Actually organizing perhaps? Anarchists I know irl aren't shills for blue maga at least.

[-] SoJB@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

I was in the streets protesting police brutality. I was in the ballot box making sure leftist parties get federal funding and ballot status. I was in the gun store making sure I am prepared to defend myself against right wing and liberal terrorism.

What the fuck have you done?

[-] InternetUser2012@lemmy.today -1 points 1 month ago

LOL, no you fucking weren't. That shit is hilarious.

[-] TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee -1 points 2 months ago

Typed furiously

[-] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world -3 points 2 months ago

There's this Unix command yes that repeatedly prints "yes" to the terminal. Well, the GOP is basically the no command.

(I know, I know, please don't explain the syntax of the yes command. It ruins the joke.)

[-] RubicTopaz@lemmy.world -3 points 2 months ago

Not defend blue maga online probably

[-] Hatandwatch@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

What about the final step?

-harm actually increased

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago

Don't know why the gigachad is part of the meme though...

[-] RubicTopaz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

It's a relatively common new take on the format. Adds some irony

[-] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

exactly

it is the ironic subversion

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Not sure I get the point of this, why wouldn't liberals be happy with liberal poster children like Harris? She's who they're looking for.

[-] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Combine all of the issues together and figure out which candidate moves the needle in the direction you need the most. In this case to me, Harris moved the needle in the direction I want, while I disagree with some of her points specifically, like Israel support.

Trump just breaks the needle.

[-] BallsandBayonets@lemmings.world 4 points 2 months ago

Harris will move the needle to the right, or at the very best, merely slow down the rate at which the needle moves to the right. The Toupee will pull the needle off and stab people with it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm voting for the lesser evil, again, but it is extremely disheartening.

Lefty Memes

4263 readers
1001 users here now

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such,

as well as condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.

7. Absolutely no posts or comments meant to relativize(/apologize for), advocate, promote or defend:

(This is not a definitive list, the spirit of the other rules still counts! Eventual duplicates with other rules are for emphasis.)
