Not included in the headline: new players will now only be matched with other new players until they achieve 4 wins. I don't think this patch will have completely solved matchmaking (since they already admitted last week that MMR was not working well and that wasn't addressed) but I think stuff like this, the behaviour system and low priority queue will have a great impact that was sorely needed.

Former LoL player, I want decency to be incentivized in every way possible in game. LoL was fun, except for the other players, who apparently never experienced lag or a learning curve.

Unfortunately the core mechanics of MOBA games encourage shitty behavior

Anyone who played football as a kid knows this.

So I had no interest in this game until I saw that cute goblin in a hat, anyone wanna give me a review?

[-] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 17 points 2 months ago

Apparently Rule 34 art of said goblin outnumber art of all the rest of the cast combined. Not a review per se, but... at least the playerbase seem to share your enthusiasm?

[-] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Now that's my kind of review!

Kind of fun, kind of chaos. Games start off pretty calm, then quickly turn into ability and dash spam. It feels quite clunky in places. The map is kind of confusing and unnecessarily complex. I personally think it would work better in a more traditional MOBA setup of 5v5, 3 lanes. But they are still refining it, so maybe it will turn out a lot better than it currently is.

Hatted gargoyle goblin is the character I like to play. In one sentence it's a 6-on-6 third person hero shooter MOBA.

I found that compared to League of Legends (at least what I knew of it 4 years ago) and other team shooting games, going after objectives is more important than winning more fights and good K/D ratios, at least at the casual player level.

Like other similar games it takes awareness of where allies and enemies are on the map, coordination between team members to play effectively and some knowledge of each character's ability. But even if you absolutely suck at shooting unpredictably moving targets (that's me), knowing when to push a lane, when to support your team, when to reap the successes of a teamfight and when to pull back will contribute toward a win even if you're 1/15/5. And a lot of punching of course.

Where Deadlock is nice right now is the short queue times and nice pick mechanism, helpful indicators for a lot of things once you know what they mean, and fun movement combos with dashing sliding and jumping.

MOBA but 3D. You can’t choose your role and have to choose 3 characters and get randomly assigned one. The game will sometimes assign you a support character and a solo lane.

[-] shasta@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

There's no guarantee this is how it will be for long. One benefit to the current system is fast queue times, not necessarily satisfying player's desires (such as no solo lanes) or fair matchmaking (though some is involved). Faster queues means more games which means more analytics can be gathered by the devs to assist in making the game better. That's the nature of a beta/playtest.

The last game I played, it gave me Dynamo, then put me in a solo lane against Seven.

I don't mean last as in most recent, I mean last.

So how do I get an invite?

Sir, this is Lemmy

[-] Emerica@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

PM your Steam code and I’ll invite you. About to go to bed so it’ll be a while but I’ll get it sent sometime tomorrow.

[-] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

I found a thread in the Steam forums of someone offering invites, but thank you for the offer :)

They nerfed the ALT button and I uninstalled it. They didn't even add a toggle, they just decided using the extra info mode with your mouse is bad and removed it.

[-] ursakhiin@beehaw.org 1 points 2 months ago

It's on tab. It's not gone.

[-] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 months ago

That's not extra info, that's scoreboard. I wanted to use mouse with extra info mode

[-] ursakhiin@beehaw.org 1 points 2 months ago

Using the mouse there gives me the extra info I used to get when using Alt

[-] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Extra Info (ALT) No longer enables cursor mode.

Straight from the patch notes. Are you sure you're actually talking aboutExtra Info and you didn't just assume what the term means based on its meaning outside the game?

[-] ursakhiin@beehaw.org 1 points 2 months ago

It's the info you get from using the mouse to hover over things on the screen.

That patch note is saying they disabled cursor mode in Alt only. They did not disable it in tab. All of the items that appeared on Alt also appear on tab where the cursor is still enabled and you can see extra info by hovering over an object on the screen.

[-] MindTraveller@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 months ago

TAB isn't extra info, it's scoreboard. I want mouse on extra info, mouse on scoreboard isn't good enough. The UI is too cluttered.
