And at a cost of 5000 plus probably

I'd be hyped anyway. Not because I want to buy one now, but because it's possible (and I might buy one in like a decade when they're affordable)

Rollable phones are such insanely sci-fi-y things

And will still have that awful GN3 sensor on the primary rear camera. Xiaomi were using a Sony sensor of the same size on the Redmi Note 12 Pro a phone that cost somewhere around $200-300 depending on the region it was sold back in 2022 and 2023.

I'm not a Samsung fan by any stretch, but this I would love to see.

After a decade of identical rectangles it's nice to see some crazy shit again

Samsung in a panic?? Every foldable screen is manufactured by Samsung afaik.

[-] evo@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

IIRC display and chip manufacturing are basically treated like separate businesses from the phones as a product. And all the other companies foldables are better than Samsung's (imo at least) because they haven't innovated or improved in several generations.

[-] filcuk@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

Not disagreeing, but the other foldables claiming no crease are bs from what I've seen.
Has anyone noticeably innovated? Genuinely curious

[-] evo@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Idk about no crease but Samsung's appear to be the most noticeable from what I've actually seen. I think other manufacturers have improved on this over time but I haven't seen anything newer than my Pixel Fold in person.

I don't iron my t-shirts, so I'm not going to start ironing my phone.

I've always wanted a real life "Global" from Earth Final Conflict. Can't wait to find out how badly I won't be able to afford it 😭

[-] tabris@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I've been saying it for years, recreate the Global, god damnit! Best sci-fi tech ever.

[-] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

I'm waiting for the Samsung Kickable Phone, so I can have a game of footy with the mates whilst shouting out my pizza order.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 3 points 2 months ago

Perfect, just what I wanted, to have to pull out and unroll my smartphone before each use, and then to roll it back up when finished

[-] WhyFlip@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

If it's like a retractable tape measure, just press the button and get that satisfying retraction action in a jiffy.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 3 points 2 months ago

goddamnit it's stuck this piece of shit it never goes back in right

[-] fiddlesticks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago

I was hoping more like a slap bracelet

[-] WhyFlip@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Ahhhhhh, snap, that would be dope! Doubles as a wearable watch!

[-] SteevyT@beehaw.org 1 points 1 month ago

I'm hoping it's spring loaded and makes that scroll "fwip-fwip-fwip-fwip" noise.

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I think it's neat. Like reading a scroll or something

I just want a hardware keyboard.... My key2 is slowly dying of old age....

[-] Ilandar@aussie.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Unihertz sells a couple of Android 11 phones with physical keyboards.

[-] Feddinat0r@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

You are totally right.. Android 11 is better than android 8 but they dont get any more updates either.. So it feels like i just exchange one with another

[-] Ilandar@aussie.zone 3 points 1 month ago

Android 11 is still capable of updating some core system components through Project Mainline, as opposed to Android 8 which is completely dead. But yeah I agree that it's probably not worth "upgrading" to those Unihertz devices. I was sharing more so it would be on your radar if they ever release a newer model.

[-] Feddinat0r@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

I still thank you for sharing. It will be my last resort if my key2 is really dying...

[-] Ilandar@aussie.zone 2 points 1 month ago

It might not be your thing, but there is also a minimalist phone from a startup shipping later this year that has a physical keyboard. And there is also the Clicks keyboard case, which currently only supports iPhones but may release for some Android phones in the future.

[-] smeg@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

Do they make add-on keyboards for phones that fold over the screen like the ones for Surface-style tablets?

[-] yetAnotherUser@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

Finally it will be easier to do the whole posting something controversial and then putting the phone in your butt

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

What does that mean, I can roll it up like a wizard's scroll? But I don't want to carry that around except as a novelty.

[-] Ilandar@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Rollies? Can I smoke them?
