8pm near a golf course parking lot. Why am I there? The taco place is next to it.

As I’m leaving I hear some sort of demonic scream. Legit thought someone was getting murdered for a second. But it starts up again, more orderly now, and evidently emanating from a group of people. Someone’s barking orders at them.

The military doesn’t have a presence here, that’s odd, wonder who they could be?

That’s when I noticed that the order barker sounded like he’s 15 years old. As it turns out, that’s because he is. And there’s an entire group of like 40 kids doing laps in a golf course parking lot. At 8pm. Doing the dumb chanting LARP thing.

I stand there for a few minutes watching 12-16 year olds shouting and chanting and barking orders and marching and having that juxtaposed with extremely adolescent voices.

It was amusing but I left pretty soon after. I did see that one of them was wearing a ‘murican flag skull t-shirt.

Asked some other guy who was there wtf was happening. Apparently they’re the Civil Air Patrol.

Wonder what US media would be saying if this were China. Well I don’t need to wonder, just teaching kids to read in a China is enough to merit the accusation of “brainwashing”.
