Not a mega Star Wars fan, but Andor blew me away. It has everything! It feels like Star Wars.
So I poked my head into the fandom. Surely they love it...

Everyone loves Andor though?
I just like it. It's an 8/10 in a sea of 2/10 shows, which makes it look better by comparison.
I think it elevates the entire cycle by actually demonstrating the daily tyranny of the Empire in a way that a lot of people, for some distressing reason, didn't really catch from Alderaan, but that's fair.
It's done more for Star wars than every other series they've done, but it still has flaws.
That is not what I saw on Reddit and some other spaces, lol.
Maybe I just looked at it wrong? Or not long enough?
I like Rogue One and Andor, very much. If the brain trust quit wanting to sell plushies more than they do making great Star Wars, the universe will thrive, else it will continue to perish in a pile of Porg
Remember kids, if you like anything in a series, you must like everything in that series, or you aren't a real fan.
Also, anyone who likes the parts of a series you dislike is an idiot that uncritically absorbs trash and doesn't understand why the good parts are good.
And of course, the coolest thing you can do is reduce both sides of a discussion to a straw man and mock them to claim a dubious high ground for yourself.
Don't try it, Anakin!
Yeah this pretty much summarizes every discussion I've ever had about Star Wars on the internet.
It's unfortunate, because sometimes I really just want to have a lighthearted conversation about the franchise or whatever the newest series is, but it's impossible to do without someone butting in and calling you an idiot for having different taste.
Everything I just said can also apply anytime a Marvel show/movie comes out.
As long as I'm still allowed to pretend episodes 7, 8 & 9 did not happen. They just stray too far from good world building for me to allow them to exist in my head-cannon.
And preferably, I would like the people who do like them to stop liking them, because Disney is motivated by money haha
I am selfish, and I'm okay with that
You make it sound so arbitrary.
Everything that comes in the first third of your life/fandom is normal, how things should be, how they always were.
The second third is new and exciting.
The third third is the downfall of the franchise, not worthy of the name.
The length of these "thirds" can vary but that's the gist of it.
The lack of JJ in this is unforgivable.
TFA was decent. By the time TRoS came around, Rian had taken the story in a different direction and left JJ to pick up the pieces. If there was a consistent storyline planned from the start, things could have been much better.
TFA was only decent because it had the exact same story structure as ANH.
JJ is someone who is good at selling his ideas, he's just not very good at executing them. This started before he was handed the reigns of Star Wars (or Trek for that matter). Just look at the trajectory of Lost: everyone guessed the ultimate twist in season one so he had to spend 6 seasons pretending that that wasn't the twist he had planned.
To be fair, LOST was much more Cuse & Lindelof then Abrams, he was barely involved after season 1. Now, Alias is another story...
Eh he gladly took the accolades for the show, he can share the blame too.
"Trekkie is and Star Wars fans..."
The list keeps getting longer!
You star wars fans certainly are a contentious bunch.
If Rian Johnson wants forgiveness he can write a Star Wars detective movie featuring Corran Horn.
The worst possible thing to happen to any series is the fandom taking things too seriously.
Sometimes its okay to have a series of silly movies about space wizards. It doesn't need to to have any deeper meaning.
It's also okay to have standards.
Just because someone dumps a bucket of slop in front of you doesn't mean you have to eat it.
You can have a good silly movie about space wizards that isn't taken too seriously but is really well made. People like to forget, but that's what Star Wars started as.
That's certainly what some people wanted it to be.
Also doesn't mean that's all it can ever be. Especially after 45 years.
Star Wars started as a metaphor for the Vietnam war (with the US as the bad guys). In The Force has always been a lot of philosophy. Just because you didn't get it as a kid, doesn't mean it was silly.
And I say that as a trekkie who never really liked Star Wars but I see why people do and can appreciate it
You just made an enemy for life
The worst possible thing to happen to any series is the fandom taking things too seriously.
Literally gatekeeping other people's enjoyment.
Why is there an apostrophe in Trekkies?
are you the apostrophe police or something?
Everyone's the apostrophe police or something.
technically true
Sure? Someone's gotta.
Because people make mistakes.
Hello there. Somehow, Star Wars memes have returned. It's not a trap, this is where the fun begins.

Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.
The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:
This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.
We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.
As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!
Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.
Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).
Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.
Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.
