Car companies have been lobbying the US government for decades to turn the country into a car-dependent shithole. They are still fucking lobbying to the point where the US government is seriously considering "TURN EVERYTHING ON THE ROAD INTO SELF-DRIVING UBER" as a strategy for the future instead of investing in public transport. The "people" at the highest levels of power do not give a shit about human beings and have made life into a hell because their corrupt asses couldn't resist Ford's moolah in return for allowing the latest mcmansion colony to be built over 9000km away from any public transport.

i hate owning a car. I've been reflecting on how much carbrained infrastructure is in effect just downloading the costs of transport and infrastructure to individual people. Instead of governments paying to maintain public transport, they've colluded with car companies and such to convince people to have to pay their own way around.
I find it incredibly difficult to convince people not to like cars even if i can counter every single justification for it the argument basically ends with "but i want to drive" while demonstrably hating every minute of it.
