At least he was a nurse on the walking dead

Nurse Hector

His work in Breaking Bad was stellar. I didn't recognize him as Hector Salamanca. Such good actor he is.

Whats your name?

[-] RoidingOldMan@lemmy.world 36 points 5 days ago

Bruce Almighty? His most memorable role.

[-] jewbacca117@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

I thought that was the butt monkey guy!

[-] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 days ago

Same, but I was afraid to voice it in case I was wrong and opening myself up to some accusations 😅

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Well this just might be worse than saying nothing at all. What did you do?

[-] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

I mean, if you mistake a person of a different race from you as someone else of that race, there's always going to be some eye narrowing.

[-] whostosay@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

I wasn't thinking this at all and I don't think anyone else would have had you not preemptively pointed it out

[-] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

Eh, I try to own my own insecurities. I haven't seen the movie in ages so I was mostly going off of hairstyle and gang leader status over his face anyhow.

[-] Hugin@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago

The Hector cinematic universe.

[-] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 34 points 5 days ago

You can't convince me those are not in the same cinematic universe

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 27 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Is there a term for this? When an actor is playing someone who is essentially the same character no matter what movie it is in (even in different thematical universes)?

[-] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 5 days ago

It’s called getting type cast.

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 29 points 5 days ago

This is one level beyond type casting though, unless Hector is a well established role.

Happened to me once :)

John Wayne played so many characters named "John" or "Duke." So many that I just tried to count how many roles and I lost track. I counted twice and got two different numbers, but I believe my final tally is 39 roles where his character had at least one of those 2 names.

EDIT: Final tally:

36 - "John" or "Johnny"

3 - "J" first initial, no full name given

5 - "Duke"

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

And of course his most iconic role of John "JD" Duke!

I would argue that “a Hector” is a recognizable Hispanic trope in a similar fashion to how “a Karen” is an American one.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

"type cast" is the casual phrase

in technical acting terms it's usually referred to as "playing close to self"

[-] 0x0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 5 days ago

It's called "getting Munched".

[-] Cintari@lemmy.world 15 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

This image is fake.

  • Price of Glory - Angel
  • Ghetto Rhapsody - (no name listed)
  • The Animal - Gang Leader (no Hector)
  • The Barrio Murders - Johnny
  • The Fast and the Furious - Hector
  • Training Day - Moreno
  • Masked and Anonymous - Inmate #1
  • Malibu's Most Wanted - Snuffy
  • Old School - Student #1
  • Double Blade (Shuang Dao) - Joker

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Gugliemi#Film

He has played "Hector" in a number of different films and TV roles, so I don't know why this was faked.

[-] flicker@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

Sooooo many of these Hectors are correct, but some of them are not.

That guy is Noel Gugliemi, and he played "Gang Leader" on The Animal, not Hector.

Price of Glory had a Hector, but that was played by Sal Lopez! Totally different looking dude!

He was a lot of Hectors but not quite that many.

[-] Slovene@feddit.nl 1 points 4 days ago

He should still legally change his name to Hector.

[-] Marcocappe@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

He's one of my favourite Hector.

[-] hector@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

Not me 👉👈 ?

Who's your favorite Hectress, though?

[-] Sundial@lemm.ee 8 points 5 days ago

Mutliverse confirmed.

[-] RangerJosie@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Jim Beaver plays Bobby Singer in everything too.

[-] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 5 days ago

I searched for "Hector' in the imdb app, he shows up as a result after 5 other people named Hector.

[-] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I'm honestly convinced he's just really bad at remembering character names so everyone just renames his character Hector

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Ok but now he needs to be in an adaptation of the Iliad
