Poppy has been replaced by wheat, a low-value crop, boding ill for the economy, poverty and the ban's future.
Holy shit that is one evil sentence.

not all all surprising when you understand america's northeast WASP elites were all opium dealers
Literally the logic that resulted in the Bengal famine.
Tropic Thunder was taking the piss when Bill Hader's character starts admiring Flaming Dragon for great profit margins due to their heroin operation.
Highly recommend the TrueAnon episode about the Afghan opium trade that mysteriously only existed during the US occupation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekUrnL8njek
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
I found this page on their website, it's real.
Which leads me to an important question: who the fuck are these assholes?
I've looked at their "Experts" page, I don't recognize anyone, I've looked at their "About" page, it's surprisingly low on info. Oh, their building in DC is "an iconic building that faces the Lincoln Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and that symbolizes our nation’s commitment to peace." Ok, but like, why is that on your "About" page, you fucking weirdos?!
So I'm at a loss. I'm sure (absolutely positive) there's info to be found here about this deeply shitty organization, but I think I'd have to spend hours and hours looking for weird connections, because they seem oddly reticent to tell casual visitors to their website anything about anything. And that weirds me the hell out. Who are these fucks?! Who is reading these (deeply shitty) articles they're writing?! Who funds them?! Why don't they have any board members listed where I can find them?!
its a CIA front OP
USIP is funded annually by the U.S. Congress. For fiscal year 2023 Congress provided $55 million.[12] Occasionally, USIP receives funds transferred from government agencies, such as the Department of State, USAID, and the Department of Defense. By law, USIP is prohibited from receiving private gifts and contributions for its program activities. The restriction on private fundraising was lifted for the public-private partnership to construct the USIP headquarters.

That's a crazy wp article. The whole thing reads like a CV.
Talk page has a couple criticisms specifically re. Iraq. Most recent Talk entry is from a decade ago:
Most of the sourcing in the article is from the US Institute of Peace itself, with most remaining sources being Op-Eds or governmental sources (or both, as in government officials writing Op-Eds). This gives a very rosy view of the work of the institute. Take the "Additional Work" section. The article repeats USIP's characterization of its own work, e.g. "Worked with community leaders to build peace neighborhood-by-neighborhood in Iraq." Someone from another perspective might characterize this work as "Aiding US military operations in occupied Iraq, neighborhood-by-neighborhood." Of course, we should just state what it is that USIP actually did, without including POV statements about "build[ing] peace" or "aiding occupying military forces."
The article needs more neutral sources that characterize USIP's work. Content which cannot be properly sourced should be removed. I won't take this step immediately, so that people who work on this page regularly can supply more appropriate sources. -Thucydides411 (talk) 22:25, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Although if you look on history you see it is constantly being updated at least monthly for the past year. Allwithh the kind of laudatory content identified above.
Anyone who wants to pick a fight with the CIA? 90% of this page should be removed because no citations or only self citations.
Edit: there is a user named Sruder who introduced themselves in 2013 as a staffer who has been making edits from that time til 2023. I believe such people are barred from editing own pages. This page should be covered in those little boxes telling you not to trust it.
Their address on Google is listed as "Government Offices", which is really funny. Things also get funnier when you see that their address isn't secret or anything, since it's listed on their site as "2301 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20037", which seems to be a real place.
"Wheat, a low value crop" not if you want to eat it
Incidentally, when does it, suddenly it's very important and an economic staple
Another banger article from The Coeliac Warmonger. They hate 2 things: Wheat and peace.
why is the Institute of Peace trying to drive a wedge between me and my Grain Husband
Reminder that before the US invaded in 2001, the Taliban wiped out Opium production in Afghanistan in order to receive foreign aid.

Wait wtf they actually have a ministry of peace? Lmfaooo
They’re doing a real life bit
The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with war, the Ministry of Truth with lies, the Ministry of Love with torture and the Ministry of Plenty with starvation.
I mean it's supposed to not be a government thing, but one of the other users mentioned it's a CIA front, so it's one step removed.
Babylon 5 without the cool aliens
British empire shit
Insanely mask off
The implications of feeding your people instead of providing US drug companies with cheap opium that can sell at a massively inflated price to a hooked public.

Opium Wars: Episode 2: Attack of The Grain
“Noooooo….not my precious ECONOMY!1!”
Yeah, what has this ‘economy’ ever done for me?
i mean it ruined my life and killed my friends but ngl it would be better then fentanyl
Which raises the real question here... Is there even a market for illicit naturally produced opiates anymore? Who would bother purchasing when you have to risk so big on the import?
