A group of popular flat earth YouTubers have admitted defeat against the ‘globers’ after taking a trip to Antarctica to witness the 24-hour sun.

...

"What does that mean? You guys are going to have to figure that out yourself. Don't listen to my beliefs or my opinion, it shouldn't matter to you. But at least you should be able to accept that the sun does exactly what these guys said as far as [it] circles the southern continent. I realise that I'll be called a shill for just saying that, and you know what, if you're a shill for being honest, so be it. I honestly believed there was no 24-hour sun, I honestly now believe there is."

Austin Whitsitt from Witsit Gets It conceded to viewers "we were wrong" about the 24-hour sun, but said he was still open to the earth being flat.

"Defeat" didn't last long. I guess the grift must continue somehow. to-the-moon

Had me in the first half

You could blast these dimwits into orbit and they'd still be like "umm nah that's actually NASA projecting a 3D globe over earth" or some b.s.

Even if literal fucking aliens came to Earth and told them they're wrong, they'd still accuse the aliens of being part of some globehead conspiracy. That's probably when the aliens decide Earth isn't worth it. posadist-nuke

lots of them were already saying beforehand that the 24 hour sun in Antarctica was just a big lamp NASA put there lmaooo

My personal conspiracy theory is that the whole flat earth "movement" was entirely manufactured by feds to serve as an example of how much manipulative power they have over the public. 10 years ago you could laugh at flat earthers in spaces where now it's suddenly treated as if it's a legitimate belief.

Probably an experiment cooked up by someone in the intelligence community, yeah

i think you can still laugh at them. i mean shit, might as well say all of christian fundamentalism is a psyop (which i'm not opposed to)

in most places yes obviously, but in some places people will get mad and downvote you which wouldn't have happened decade ago

Was Dan Olson right that all these dudes moved on to Qanon? What's it like to be a flat earther who doesn't believe in far right conspiracy theories?

[-] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Where did Qanon move on to? Its time has very much passed.

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

That's a good question. My initial guess is 80% back to semi-grillpill but still half deranged and 20% completely lost their minds and lost the plot entirely?

Modern flat earth is a CIA psychological operation. No one gave a shit before 2016ish and then it became a thing (Obama himself mentioned it as something ridiculous). That's about when google started censoring by prioritizing MSM websites.

What I never understood is what the point of all the world's governments lying about the shape of the Earth? Who benefits from tricking people into thinking the world is round vs flat?

[-] prole@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

Without looking into it at all, I can almost promise you it's "the jews"

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

All conspiracy theories will eventually turn into antisemitism. Flat earthers got there immediately. It's one of the first reasons they give in that documentary, Behind the Curve. The film crew goes to a convention and there's multiple groups there blaming jews.

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's "the jews have set up a Truman Show style trap for humanity and are covering it up".

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

keep people from venturing beyond the ice wall, or understanding that Heaven is literally just up, beyond the firmament

[-] BigLenin@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

It's to promote atheism. The flat earth would be proof we live in a divine fishbowl.

[-] DengistDonnieDarko@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

smh, fake believers. I would never admit I was wrong.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
