Gulf of Mexico. Don't fucking legitimize it.

[-] xor@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

it’s sarcasm, come on….
but i’d put it in quotes, or qualify it somehow….
like: the supposedly “Gulf of America”.

Don’t even entertain the name with a joke. That’s lending it legitimacy.

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 31 points 1 day ago

Gulf of Mexico, you mean. The gulf of America is something that doesn't exist

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

The Gulf of America is the wealth gap between the poor and the ultra-rich.

[-] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

I believe the Gulf of America is actually in Russia

[-] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Nobody calls it that. Gulf of Mexico Florida man here. Republicans I know think that's dumb and no one plans to say that

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 279 points 2 days ago

Im not going to call it the Gulf of America. That's embarrassing.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 51 points 2 days ago

Nobody is except those ring-tailed dingdongs called the Republicans.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

And you. Since you posted with that exact name. Telling on yourself?

[-] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

Lemmy and getting jokes. What a tough combo.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago

No LOL I'm being sarcastic.

[-] fushuan@lemm.ee 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I would quote it or somehow explicitly indicate your sarcasm since it doesn't translate well over text. You can edit post titles.

Woosh. Pretty ironic for someone called "PunnyName"

[-] Allonzee@lemmy.world 45 points 2 days ago

I'll call it the Gulf of Carl's Jr

Because that's where we're at.

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 18 points 2 days ago

I just realized Trump probably thinks it's the Golf of Mexico

Gulf of America

No such place.

Sure there is, it's right off the American Ocean (not to be confused with the West American Ocean).

All this “””global warming””” bs is climate extremism! /s

It’s so bad that the temperature where I live (Edmonton, Alberta) barely gets below freezing during winter when it should be around -15 to -20C in December and January. Last winter, we barely had snows save a few snowstorms. Every summer, the city fills with smoke from yearly wildfires and it gets hard to breathe.

The climate was never like this in the last 10 years, yet people still say climate change isn’t human caused or doesn’t exist

[-] nexguy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Should be called the Gulf of Water

[-] skeezix@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

What’s the reasoning there?

[-] scutiger@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

There's more water in it than there is America.

[-] uebquauntbez@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Gulf Of Disappeared Dinosaurs Area Meteorite Nuke

or short: GODDAMN

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

Guild of Mexico.

Flippancy or sarcasm, or not, continuing to use his language only empowers it.

[-] SolarMonkey@slrpnk.net 11 points 2 days ago

Sooooooo back in 2008 when I lived in Houston, we got a solid inch of snow.. and the year before that when I was in California, it froze so bad the pipes burst…

I used to joke I brought the Midwest with me but it turns out it was just climate change :(

Instead of Canada, we're going to rename it Canamerica. Instead of Mexico, we're going to name it Mexigoingtoamerica.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Then we can take back the Canama Panal.

I don't think people believe that climate change doesn't exist. I think they just think it's either caused by natural factors or not as dangerous. I bet that 90% of the people are aware of the climate change.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I don’t think people believe that climate change doesn’t exist

From the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works

You can argue Inhofe is being cynical, but there's plenty of O&G heads in his district who make more money as denialists than serious inquisitors.

[-] GrumpyDuckling@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

If they officially changed the name, then that would probably affect a shitton of laws, contracts, treaties, government policies, and who knows what else that reference the "gulf of Mexico"
