Nah most of them are tiptoeing around the issue like they're owned by rupert murdoch. Its funny because smug european liberals always rush to differentiate themselves as better than americans but on this they're just as ambivalent.

it's hard for them to call a sieg heil an american imposition when it's a european innovation. these are the fruits of natoneoliberal transatlanticism

Except for the communist newspaper I subscribe to, all other European news I've seen have been ambivalent to what Musk did. Idk what European news the person tweeting is reading.

euro news is doing mostly the same cope, most damning i saw was the guardian saying he "appeared to do a fascist salute"

Dagbladet wrote,

Elon Musk's salute during Donald Trump's inauguration has caused reactions around the world. Many have no questions about what Musk did, while others believe it was a gesticulation done in pure joy and enthusiasm, and others still point out that Musk simply has poor motor skills. Regardless of intentions, however, Musk's stretching out of his arm has been praised by right-wing extremists and Nazi organizations around the world. [...] The American and Jewish civil rights group the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which monitors antisemitism, says that Musk's salute was in all likelihood not intended as a Nazi salute, but was an enthusiastic, clumsy gesture. ("Hylles av norsk nynazist" — Jan 21 2025)

So you can't necessarily paint European media as universally calling a spade a spade, unfortunately.

The wedge between the two is interesting to watch.

The two were a little different 10 years ago, and now America is pushing on all its un-European aspects and the gap is growing.

I'm curious to see how it all unfolds. Fuck em both.
