What if he wasn't aligned with the Nazis OR the USSR? What if he was a secret third thing?

No? Well... nevertheless!

[-] Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago

galaxy-brain he could have been both a member of the SS and an anti Nazi partisan fighter. Ever think about that one, stankoid?

[-] FrogFractions@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Literally just “but what if he wasn’t a Nazi?”

I've read that one of the big sources of victims for crypto scams is the discord servers of imploding crypto scams. The scammer knows everyone in there is a perennial goober so any association with it makes you a mark. I wonder if people similarly target Ukrainian Flag Guys. They're consistently the kind of Guy who has a whole Lawrence of Arabia journey for one neuron to reach another.

Lawrence of Arabia

"Nothing is written!!!" they scream as you point them to sources that disprove their feefees

[-] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

"Perennial goober" is a lovely turn of phrase

a job offer to do what?

A JOB OFFER TO DO WHAT???

[-] YouKnowIt@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

Well on one hand we have Himmler personally giving his division a speech with gems like “…Your homeland has become so much more beautiful since you have lost – on our initiative, I must say – those residents who were so often a dirty blemish on Galicia’s good name, namely the Jews…I know that if I ordered you to liquidate the Poles…I would be giving you permission to do what you are eager to do anyway.”

But on the other hand who's to say really?

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 1 year ago

Is this a bit? Surely it's a bit, this is satire, right? This is too perfect to be real.

[-] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Nazis are just job creators now

[-] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

oh so simply accepting a job offer in the ss makes you a nazi now. I suppose formal membership in the nazi party will make you a nazi soon

[-] Cummunism@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago

i sent a "leftist" friend of mine an article about this 98 year old Nazi. this "leftist" really liked sending BBC articles about Russia totally getting owned. He has not responded to the article about the 98 year old Nazi. I do rather enjoy seeing someone out themselves as a radlib.

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 46 points 1 year ago

Duh everyone knows SS stands for Socialism Stoppers so that means he was one of the good guys blob-no-thoughts

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago

"He fought against the soviet nazis in WWII"

[-] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago

Battle of Kiev (1941, colorized)

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 year ago

Ugh, I remember when this was absurd over the top satire, now this is exactly what libs actually think.

People who fought with the Nazi regime in WW2 should be prosecuted, no exceptions. It's alarming that a person with such a history is being celebrated. How does Canada's Jewish community feel about this?

This and Ukrainian troops being pictured with Sonnenrad and other Nazi symbols, is a really bad look. War going on or not, Ukraine and Western allies should show that Nazi symbolism will not be tolerated under any circumstances. But they won't. It's an easy victory for the Russian narrative that they're trying to "de-Nazify" Ukraine as well.

It's not just a bad look. Consider what kind of people the folks sporting swastikas and sonnenrads openly are like in your country, and what war crimes they would perform given the opportunity. That is what these people are definitely doing out there.

Yeah the issue is the "optics" and that it proves Russia right lmao

The issue is the fucking fascism. The issue is the west being unashamed fascists who don't realize they are the baddies wearing skull caps. Russia is correct about western nazis.

[-] TrudeauCastroson@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

Weisenthal Centre had an article about how after WW2 Canada was letting in Ukrainians with Nazi tattoos in.

This is because there was already a Ukrainian diaspora, but they were heavily involved in trade unionism. So they got the most anti-communist people they could find (Nazis) to dilute this.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

NATO deliberately haboured, nurtured, and funded these guys for this exact purpose. They did this on purpose. When the war ended Canada and the US scooped up all the Ukrainian Nazis and used them as cold war weapons. When the Ussr was destroyed they sent them back to Ukraine to engineer this scenario, re-writing the history of the 20th century as part of a comprehensive plan to encircle and ultimately destabilize and conquer the RF. It's not a "bad look". It' s been the plan, the deliberate and active and intended plan, for seventy years. This is decades of work by NATO and elements of NATO member militaries and intelligence groups coming to fruition.

I mean sure Hitler did some bad things but he also killed Hitler

[-] OgdenTO@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

Wait, can someone confirm for me - there were not Ukrainian partisans that fought against both, right? Like, that category just did not exist?

[-] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There probably were, I just imagine it's an insanely small percentage. Especially during barbarossa. Similar to how the right wing factions fought alongside communists to resist Japanese occupation in China and Korea. Like of course there's going to be some small groups, but strategically any sane group would've picked a side (and any non-fascist one would've sided with the Soviets).

It's also such an insane proposition to be partisans fighting both sides without external support that I doubt they have many survivors or ancestors anyway.

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I doubt WW2 Ukraine had very many of that kind of confused American libertarian.

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 year ago

Even if there were, if you're actively fighting the government while they are busy fighting an invading force, you're doing the work of a fifth columnist for that force, regardless of if you actually support them. So if an "enlightened centrist" Ukrainian partisan did exist, their effect during the war would be indistinguishable from those actively supporting the nazis.

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

The UA partisans who fought against the Nazis were pissed off the Nazis wouldn't let them have their own genocidal fascist ethnostate. It wasn't some kind of noble rebellion. They were just so fucking stupid and high on racial superiority they thought the Reich would let them make their own Ukrainian Nazi country, and when the Nazis very obviously didn't do that a small number of them fought the Nazis. Not even all the UA fascists.

There's no nuance or complexity here. All the Ukraians who fought against the ussr were genocidal fascists.

it's not like Ukraine was a separate state that had been invaded by both groups like Poland either Ukraine had at that point been part of Russia for hundreds of years

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

"They fought against the Nazis too!" 1.) No they fucking didn't and 2.) It was because the Nazis wouldn't let them have their own Ukrainian fascist state, not for some noble reason (though that poster probably thinks ukrainians doing the holocaust is noble)
