that was part of the charm. At the time it made these events feel more shocking, to come from the genteel brightly colored chocobo farm and the village of Kalm into this.
You'd experienced the murders in ShinRa tower, escaped heroically and had a nice time wandering through the countryside before feeling sucked back into danger here.
