Uncle Sam might be sad, but the trapping is quite intentional. Uncle Sam could have said no, but he didn’t. There are thousands of uncle Sams out there today saying yes. And that’s terrifying.

Would have been a better comic if the bucket just said tariffs on it rather than needing a sign

[-] activ8r@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

Now it's easier to reuse the meme next time this happens.

There, now it's good to use every day for the next 4+ years:

He did something and didn't realize the consequences?! I'm shocked!

The system’s checks and balances prevent any one person from having enough power to cause problems like this.

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 months ago

yet everyone responsible for enforcing these 'checks and balances' is conveniently silent or getting locked out or fired. This so called system isn't a machine computer program that works with no human intervention

If they can't get other countries to play ball and the tariffs continue, they'll forge ahead with getting rid of income tax... that's the plan. Income from tariffs to replace income tax; it's a super regressive tax on the workers and small businesses, but the billionaire class will only soar to higher heights.

I'm sure the people who made this decision will be alright. The rest (including those who voter for them), not so much...

Like any part of the current administration would care about stepping in wet paint.

Wait, what's the door in this metaphor?

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Nothing, it's just the exit. It's about the phrase "Painting yourself into a corner"

[-] Thorry84@feddit.nl 3 points 11 months ago

I'm not sure if you are making a very deep philosophical point here or are just saying don't overthink it

[-] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago

I think you're overthinking it, trump choose to put himself in this situation = uncle sam choose to trap himself in the corner

[-] fin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

It's just the exit...

[-] _____@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

could mean closed opportunities but it's not 100% clear that this was the artists intention

I think it means "there's no way out"
