Summary

FDA scientists have been instructed to avoid using words like "woman," "disabled," and "elderly" in external communications, per a leaked list circulating within the agency.

The directive, reportedly linked to Trump’s executive order against "gender ideology," has caused confusion and concern.

The White House denies most words are banned but confirms restrictions on terms related to gender and diversity.

Scientists fear these limits will hinder medical research and public health efforts.

Hey you know who else made a list of banned words?

Hitler.

Hitler made a list of band words.

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

No one that has ever banned an education have ever been the good guys.

[-] StandStillLaddie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I assume "raping women" and "making fun of the disabled" are still ok. Fascist fuck.

That is some straight up Freudian shit

[-] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

What's Freudian about it? I don't really know anything about Freud other than jokes, but I thought he was all about penis envy and mothers... Or something like that? 😅

[-] groucho@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 month ago

Sometimes a person says what they actually mean instead of what they mean to say. We call that a Freudian Dick.

[-] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Ohhh like a Freudian slip thing, I get it! I'm not sure they've even been trying to hide their contempt for women, disabled people, or elderly people though!

[-] cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

almost as if terfism and gender criticism is just thinly veiled misogyny and women hating politics

[-] whydudothatdrcrane@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

"Am I out of touch?" The irony was lost on TERFs ever since they were applauded by anti-abortion christian and white nationalists and nazis, and they still went "No, it is the trans that are profoundly misogynist".

[-] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 1 month ago

That's because the Orange Jackass wants the government to use asshole-approved words, like "bitch," "cripple," and "decrepit."

[-] Harbinger01173430@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Wait, so we can use Talking Rib and Cripple instead?

[-] greenfish@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

My friend is a proposal manager for a non-profit. She had to advise some of her scientists to use 'non-man person' for a proposal for a grant to study breast cancer. I wish I were joking

[-] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

How this continues to be ok with Americans is beyond me. Change stops on an individual level. Your friend should have called bullshit then and there and refuse to use non-man person. Over 50% of the goddamn population is a non-man person.

[-] atrielienz@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Distractions. There are a lot of them and most of us are replying to the distractions with emotional messages and Hitler/nazi-musk memes instead of doing our due diligence to find out what's going on and how we can stop it. The memes, they do nothing but give us the sense of camaraderie without direction or objective. And any time you tell the people making them that, they get mad and block you or downvote you.

[-] AlolanYoda@mander.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

I propose dividing people into penised people and penisless people. I'm sure vagina is banned too but I can't remember

[-] threeganzi@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

The preferred term is “non-penised person at birth”, thank you!

[-] coolmojo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I wonder if they can use the word female or individuals with XX chromosome.

[-] doodledup@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nobody realizes that all of these outrageous headlines, quotes and ideas of Trump are just distractions from his actual agenda. He's intentionally flooding the media with this kind of stuff.

This headline in particular is completely irrelevant in the grand sceme of things. So is most other things. Like him saying he's going to own Gaza. Was never going to happen. It's just a distraction and everyone is falling for it again and again.

I learned to ignore most of what Trump is doing and only pay attention to the important stuff that usually ranks second in the news behind this kind of stuff.

Increasing the power of the executive branch in line with Unitary Executive Theory and following the Project 2025 playbook through Elon to gut social services across the board. He will be the dictator of the country when they're done, with no regulatory agency power to stop the full fascist takeover.

All the money they saved by cutting these essential programs that literally keep people alive (in the US and around the world) and from homelessness will be sent to the rich through tax cuts. It's all very obvious, but since they're hurting nonwhite people the most, hardly anyone who voted for him sees what's happened.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I mean I feel like we're paying attention to that too? I mean we can read more than one kind of article in a day. Everything you said seems pretty well understood to me

[-] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Sure, we understand it. We're getting non-algorithmic news that isn't covered in sports or celebrity bullshit. The average American, I assure you, doesn't know anything about this stuff. Most of the people I talk to in regular life about this stuff haven't even heard of project 2025. Did you see how many people googled "did Biden drop out?" on election day?

The average person is poorly informed and dumbass stuff like -Red White And Blueland- or -turn Gaza into the Riviera of the middle east- are what they hear about, if even that. These, while horrifying, are the distractions to the real game of dictatorship and wealth transfer to the richest of the rich.

Whether you call it "flood the zone" or "firehose of bullshit" it's what they're doing and it's working very well.

[-] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

The only allowed words are "straight", "white", "Christian" and "man".

[-] moitoi@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

Some women voted to be enslaved. This says a lot about our society and where we should work on.

[-] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You have seen them wear I want to be grabbed by the pussy shirts? Words have become meaningless to them.

[-] unemployedclaquer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

restrictions on terms related to gender and diversity

LMAO

[-] itsathursday@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Sorry but just because this mentions FDA this has nothing to do with science. This is an article about politics and bigotry. Real science is happening elsewhere and it’s unfortunate it probably won’t come from the US.

[-] whydudothatdrcrane@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago

We could say that science is under attack (see following sources). In this case, it belongs.

Can we agree that:

  1. Science is under attack.
  2. Weaponized cisgenderism is science denialism at this point.
  3. Free speech absolutism is a trope to suppress all freedom except for white supremacist rhetoric.
  4. The attacks are not limited to trans but also cis women, including cis women scientists.
  5. Trans rights stem from a complex set of fundamental freedoms, and opposing them is profoundly fascist.

If anyone does not agree, ex post facto, with the above points is a literal nazi apologist at this point, and can go debate if FElon's salute was nazi or not. I don't have the time of day for this though.

Can we further agree that scientists must be in the social and ideological avant-garde and opposing fascism, like Einstein did?

Then we see at a time that science is under attack, in the context of a petrifying fascist power grab from anti-vax charlatans, and in the name of science innocent people are vilified and persecuted, that the relevance of these developments ought to be front and center to all science-related communities, much like this once were:

Because this more or less shows the fossil fuel interests that are behind all this.

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Once again, those 7 million or so asshats that didn't vote for Kamala because of 'GeNoCiDe JoE', this is on you.

[-] o_arguido@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

When you keep having to vote for the lesser evil for so long, you get Trump.

Democrats were a lesser evil and that wasn't enough.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 month ago

But not the 75 million fascists

[-] Draedron@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Them too. Both are equally to blame.
