I will never buy American milk. Ever.

It has nothing to do with price, and everything to do with the US allowing the injection of growth hormones in Dairy cows which are banned in Canada.

[-] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Which brands are Canadian? I've never paid attention before.

[-] BlameThePeacock@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

All of them, we don't import milk in any sort of grocery store quantity.

[-] Nougat@fedia.io 0 points 4 months ago

Sure, but you have to buy it in a bag.

(Stay strong, Canada, we deserve it.)

[-] SGforce@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

We have the regular cartons too. The bags are for the family pack. Do Americans have a large family pack that's like three cartons stuck together?

[-] Botzo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Not really. It's plastic gallon jugs.

[-] SGforce@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

Oh yeah. Forgot about those.

[-] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago

Those are great for road trips.

[-] Botzo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

As a lactose intolerant person, I'm horrified, lol.

[-] errer@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Yes at Costco.

Is it true that American milk is normally UHT milk?

[-] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 months ago

From what I have seen (am American and lived outside DC and in a rural town in New Mexico) mostly the UHT milk is the organic stuff as well as most of our cream, which makes cheese making with cream impossible.

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

I'm not actually sure, but the milk I buy isn't and most milk I've seen doesn't seem to be given they expire in days so I'm guessing not. Nutritionally, it doesn't matter but it does impact the taste at the cost of lasting a long time and I have tasted bad milk before from the big box stores.

[-] BigDiction@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

No I generally have to seek out UHT milk if needed.

From the article:

“Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said in an Oval Office address Friday, citing Canada’s roughly 250% tariff on US dairy exports to the country. Trump said America would match those tariffs dollar-for-dollar.

[-] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 1 points 4 months ago

Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber

Lumber?! LUMBER?! The same soft wood lumber deal that gutted the Canadian industry?! The thing we took on the chin to "be a good neighbour"!?

All distractions and creating confusion... stop listening to what he says and start paying attention to what he and the people he appointed do and who benefit from it.

[-] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 months ago
[-] Propheticus@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 months ago

What I mean is the whole threats of tariffs thing is distracting people from the hollowing out of the government and checks / balances that make it a democracy. Removing protections against and sanctions on Russia. Pouring all the goodwill and trust on the stage of world politics down the drain. Who stands to benefit from an isolated US and infighting within NATO?

[-] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 months ago

You're a better person than I am if you can. There is a firehose of bullshit coming at us right now.

Him "thinking about" or "threatening" doing shit is a distraction until it gets to the next step. Him "moving" to do shit is him actually having started the process.

The clock is ticking down on a crucial but little-noticed part of President Donald Trump’s first round of executive orders — the one tasking the secretaries of the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security to submit a joint report, within 90 days, recommending “whether to invoke the Insurrection Act.”

Many of us are now holding our collective breath, knowing that the report and what it contains could put us on the slippery slope toward unchecked presidential power under a man with an affinity for ironfisted dictators.

Adding to the suspense was the recent “Friday Night Massacre” at the Pentagon — the firing of the nation’s top uniformed officer and removing other perceived guardrails (i.e., the top uniformed lawyers at the Army, Navy and Air Force) standing between the president and his long-stated intention to declare martial law upon returning to power.

Source: Is Trump preparing to invoke the Insurrection Act? Signs are pointing that way

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

In the maga fictional universe, what fucking reason would there be for the insurrection act?

[-] ploot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Whatever "emergency" they can dream up: immigrants, wokeism, trans people taking over the universe, people asking them to stop being assholes, fentanyl, Canada existing, brown people having jobs, etc.

Lmfao is this the art of the deal?

[-] droopy4096@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 months ago

men-children at work: I'll slapnyou with bagilion-gazillion taxes on random stuff! Humanity has degraded to preschooler politics.

[-] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 months ago

That's insulting to preschoolers.
