Image is of Gazans breaking their fast with the Iftar meal during the ongoing Ramadan.

Due to a request by @miz@hexbear.net, this thread's COTW is Qatar.

The ceasefire deal broke down early last week after Israel unilaterally changed the terms of the agreement and then blamed Hamas for not meeting them. Violence against civilians has rapidly accelerated to pre-ceasefire levels, with many hundreds dead already, aid once again cut off, and Israeli soldiers once again entering and occupying the attritional labyrinth that is Gaza.

I'm not yet in a position to make any solid predictions or analysis, as the geopolitical situation in and around Israel has changed fairly substantially over the last 6 months; in some ways benefiting Israel, and in other ways not. We know for sure how Hamas and Ansarallah are reacting (thankfully, with open hostility to both Israel and the United States), but the state of Hezbollah has been a giant question mark for months now, and precisely what Iran plans to do (beyond the usual level of supplying weaponry and intelligence to all the allies it can) is unknown. Syria will be almost certainly be a big wildcard, and we'll have to see if the compradors in Damascus can weather the storm.

Got an email notification that Hirbawi Kufiyehs, Palestinian jewelry and leather goods were in stock. I didn't realize it was not the Australian supplier but the USA store (must have subscribed at some point). I saw a bunch of neat bracelets and rings out of copper, tried to buy them, my credit card declined and even when I fixed it, I realized they won't ship to me.

The leather goods are pretty neat. They have a leather passport holder which I guess the idea is if you're part of the diaspora with a passport from another country you can carry it in something that says "State of Palestine" and looks like a passport.

JD Vance To Join Unwelcome U.S. Delegation To Greenland In Escalating Display Of Power

U.S. deputy leader J.D. Vance has announced his intents to get off the couch and join a high-level U.S. delegation that is currently in Greenland uninvited and unwelcome under the thin guise of attending dog sled races, fueling fears of American territorial ambitions masked as security concerns. Departing from previous cautious statements, Danish leader Mette Frederiksen and Greenland’s acting prime minister Múte B. Egede has condemned the provocation, but Denmark’s dependence on the U.S. has left the Nordic hermit kingdom powerless to resist, highlighting Trump’s treatment of European vassals as subjects rather than partners.

Citizens of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, watched anxiously as two large Hercules planes from the American military touched down at the local airport this Sunday. The aircraft carried high-ranking American regime officials, staffers, and black armored SUVs. Officially, the Americans claim they are merely visiting to observe the annual Avannaata Qimussersua dog sled races sponsored by the local U.S. consulate, a cover story so flimsy it bordered on mockery. The delegation’s true agenda became undeniable days later when Vice President J.D. Vance announced via Twitter that he would join his wife, "second lady" Usha Vance, in Greenland on Friday, declaring his intent to “strengthen security for the Greenlandic people.”

“Many other countries have threatened Greenland and sought to use its territory to threaten the U.S., Canada, and of course the Greenlandic people,” Vance stated in a video, framing the visit as a protective mission. His rhetoric, paired with the abrupt escalation of the delegation’s seniority, has sparked alarm. Danish media is calling the Vance visit a "diplomatic declaration of war" and noting how unprecedented it is for s vice president to visit another country when he has verb explicitly told to stay away.

The delegation already present in Greenland includes U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and "second lady" Usha Vance, the wife of Vice President J.D. Vance. Notably, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is rumored to be joining later. Their presence, uninvited and coming at a politically sensitive moment as Greenland's parliament is negotiating a new governing coalition, is viewed as a direct challenge to Danish sovereignty over Greenland.

Danish leader: “President Trump is Serious. He Wants Greenland.”

Danish leader Mette Frederiksen has finally found her spine after months of cowering in Trump's shadow and has responded with her strongest rhetoric to date. In a recent interview, she made it clear that this visit cannot be viewed in isolation from the American supreme leader's repeated statements about wanting control over Greenland.

"President Trump is serious, and he is determined. He wants Greenland," Frederiksen stated. "This visit is not about what Greenland needs or wants. No matter how you frame it, this is an entirely unacceptable form of pressure—not just on Greenland and its leaders, but on Denmark and the entire Kingdom."

Frederiksen’s remarks mark a significant rhetorical escalation compared to her previously cautious stance. Critics like Pelle Dragsted from the Red-Greens, a pro-democracy opposition party, argue the shift is overdue: "The government has tried the other approach for months: Showing restraint and speaking Trump's language. It hasn't worked. Quite contrary. The US keeps repeating these very disrespectful and insane plans to take over Greenland". Dragsted argues that the cautious approach is being seen as a sign of weakness by Washington and that a more firm line is necessary.

However, while Frederiksen's words are strong, her government’s inability to resist the American Trump regime's provocations is glaring. A chartered plane full of Danish cops has been sent to Greenland, not to deport the unwelcome visitors but merely to maintain order while the Trump circus is in town.

Denmark remains firmly integrated in the American world order as a vassal of Washington, and Copenhagen finds itself trapped between maintaining its long-standing subservient role as a loyal U.S. vassal and responding to the most direct challenge to Danish territorial integrity since World War II.

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen also voiced his disapproval, calling the American visit a "charm offensive" designed to pull Greenland further into Washington’s orbit. "There is no appetite for this in Greenland or the Kingdom of Denmark," he stated. However, Denmark’s options for resistance appear slim, leaving the visit as a humiliating episode in the country’s relations with its increasingly aggressive overlord.

Greenlandic PM: “An Unacceptable Lack of Respect”

Greenland’s acting Prime Minister, Múte B. Egede, has repeatedly stressed that neither his transitional government nor Denmark invited the delegation and he asks all nations to respect the ongoing Greenlandic coalition talks.

Egede also issued a desperate call for urgent international support, stating, "It has not helped for Greenland to stand together. It has not helped to say no. Diplomatic attempts have failed. Now the international community must act."

However, it remains unclear who would have the power and interest to tell the American regime to leave Greenland alone.

His comments reflect growing anxiety among Greenlanders about the Trump administration’s aggressive approach. Greenlanders fear that Washington’s interest in their nation is not just economic or strategic, but territorial.

Besides a few local Quislings, Greenlandic society is virtually unanimous in rejecting the American schemes. As shown by the recent election, the discussion in Greenlandic politics is no longer whether the nation should be independent but rather how soon it should be independent. Greenlanders are Greenlanders, they are not Danes, and they are sure as hell not Americans. They know that the moment Washington sinks its claws into their land, any dream of independence is dead in the water.

Denmark’s Powerlessness on Display

Reports in the media suggest that Frederiksen's Social Democrat-led right-wing regime is panicking over the crisis, scrambling to expend all their diplomatic resources to diffuse the crisis.

Meanwhile, in Danish media the American provocations in Greenland are being compared to the build-up to Crimea's admission to the Russian Federation in 2014. Terminally online conservative MP Rasmus Jarlov has taken a break from foaming over the reactionary grievance du jour and has taken to Twitter to demand the immediate closure of the U.S. consulate in Nuuk. He writes: "No other countries would accept people who have openly declared that they are there to annex part of the country". He goes on to demand the immediate closure of the consulate to keep "saboteurs and fifth columnists" out.

The arrival of the U.S. delegation represents a stark demonstration of Denmark’s inability to enforce its sovereignty in Greenland. Despite Frederiksen’s strong words, the Danish government did not prevent the visit. Greenland, while officially an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark, has effectively been under American military occupation since a 1951 defense agreement and remains dependent on America for protection. This dependence severely limits Denmark’s ability to challenge Washington’s actions.

The current situation underscores a broader shift in U.S.-European relations under Trump’s second presidency. Traditionally, Western European nations like Denmark have enjoyed a privileged status within the American-led international order. Their ruling elites, deeply entrenched in Atlanticist ideology, were accustomed to a relatively cooperative relationship with Washington. However, Trump’s renewed push to annex Greenland signals a shift and an abandonment of polite liberal niceties towards Europe—Western European allies are no longer treated as partners, but as subjects to be pressured, coerced, and exploited, much like other regions under U.S. influence.

For years, European leaders have comforted themselves with the illusion that they are partners of the United States. This trip to Nuuk is a reminder that they are not partners. They are property. And when the landlord comes knocking, there’s not a damn thing they can do to stop him.

Edolf Musk and Trumpet have nominated Brent Bozo to be the next US ambassador to South Africa. Bozo's appeal to take the role is literally the atrocity propaganda from 7th October and Bozo's personal hatred of the free South Africa. The SAJFP published a statement at the beginning of March on how another similar character by the name of Chen Kugel authored the same atrocity propaganda and subsequent propaganda regarding the Bibas children. Now the exact same propaganda is going to be used yet again, this time with South Africa in the crosshairs.

This while the relations between South Africa and two white supremacist entities continue to nosedive. Trump is definitely not going to budge to the demands of Botswana, let alone South Africa, to have the US airbase in Botswana shut down. Of course, Big Brother says that there is no airbase, or there never was one, or that the airbase has been closed, or that it's Kremlin propaganda. The airbase in question, Thebephatshwa is just over 300 kilometers northwest from the Gauteng Province, easily within reach of one of Africa's largest cities.

Last week, Salaamedia also had an interview with Professor Jeff Halper (director of "israeli" Committee Against Home Demolitions), who remarked that Palestine is the canary in the coal mine, with the host Selaelo Makhwidiri also taking an opportunity to justifiably levy criticisms against South Africa's lack of material actions outside the ICJ and add to the comment of "canary in the coal mine" where the impunity could possibly bring a rude awakening much closer to home into Nairobi, Cape Town or Johannesburg. This new ever-increasing hostility against South Africa is also said to come due to lack of action on part of the government, with only words, true as they are. While any sort of military/major terrorist attack against South Africa is very unlikely at least until 2029, it isn't zero. There have already been kidnapping/death threats levied against the former foreign minister Naledi Pandor, USAID and PEPFAR has been cut, the US has boycotted the G20, renewed threats to suspend South Africa from AGOA as well as imposing sanctions, what comes next then? Aside from the initial shock of these cuts/suspensions, this does mean that the US surrenders the ransom it has over South Africa, or most of the continent. Assuming of course that the government doesn't capitulate, it does mean further cooperation with BRICS+, BRI, SCO, etc. and emboldement.

No tears will be shed if the Cape Friendship carrying coal to piSSrael is ever humbled by Ansar Allah with a Falastin-2 missile. Only a very swift familiarity of PIGPOOPBALLS to any South African head of state issuing a condemnation.

Death to ameriKKKa, Death to piSSrael

🇳🇪🇨🇳Niger-China Relations- No Break, But a Necessary Readjustment:

The Minister of Petroleum, Dr. Sahabi Oumarou, reassured the public: "This is not a break in technical cooperation between the State of Niger and China, nor a denunciation of the contracts binding Niger to Chinese companies." However, he highlighted persistent imbalances in the distribution of wealth generated by oil exploitation. "The strength of a partnership rests above all on respect for the laws and commitments of the parties. However, we are not satisfied with the distribution of wealth, particularly with regard to the salaries of Nigerien employees compared to those of expatriates, the Nigerization of key positions, the transfer of technology, and the market share allocated to local companies," he declared.

The minister announced strong measures to rebalance this cooperation. These include the dismissal of the Managing Directors of CNPCNP (China National Petroleum Corporation Niger Petroleum) and SORAZ (Société de Raffinage de Zinder), as well as the Managing Director of WAPCO (West African Gas Pipeline Company). These decisions follow several unsuccessful attempts at readjustment. "After 20 years of partnership, key positions continue to be occupied by expatriates, which demonstrates a lack of genuine willingness to transfer skills," he lamented.

Dr. Sahabi Oumarou also insisted on standardizing the salary scale within the three oil companies concerned. "Nigerians must take back control of the exploitation of their resources. We demand that salaries be aligned and that local skills be valued," he insisted. He reaffirmed the commitment of the highest authorities to implement concrete actions to improve the daily lives of Nigeriens, in accordance with the August 2, 2024, order on local content.

China Condemns U.S. Tariffs Against Venezuela - Telesur English

Article

Currently, Venezuela is the twelfth-largest oil exporter to China. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called on Washington to “stop interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs,” referring to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 25% tariff on countries that purchase oil from the Caribbean nation.

In addition to calling for the removal of U.S. sanctions against Venezuela, the Chinese diplomat stated that the United States “has long abused illegal unilateral sanctions” and “long-arm jurisdiction.”

Guo asserted that his country firmly opposes brutal interference in the affairs of other nations and urged Washington to “do more to promote Venezuela’s peaceful and stable development.”

“There are no winners in trade wars or tariff wars, and imposing tariffs will only result in greater losses for American businesses and consumers,” the Chinese diplomat added.

The U.S. tariffs on countries that purchase Venezuelan oil and gas will take effect on April 2. Trump left the imposition of these tariffs to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will apply them to the countries he deems appropriate.

In an initial message on the social network Truth Social, Trump stated that “any country that buys oil and/or gas from Venezuela will have to pay a 25% tariff to the United States on any trade transaction” conducted with the U.S.

This “secondary tariff” is in response to Venezuela having “intentionally and fraudulently” sent “tens of thousands of high-level criminals and other offenders” to the U.S, Trump said. Currently, Venezuela is the twelfth-largest oil exporter to the Asian giant, selling 1.4 million metric tons to China in 2024.

Shortly after returning to the White House, Trump had already decided to double the additional tariffs on China to 20%, justifying his decision by claiming that, in his view, Beijing is not doing enough to prevent fentanyl from entering the United States. It is currently unknown whether the potential new tariffs on China related to Venezuelan oil would be in addition to the already mentioned tariff increase.

During his first presidency (2017-2021), Trump had a tense relationship with Beijing, imposing several rounds of tariffs worth approximately US$370 billion annually, to which China responded with tariffs on U.S. exports.

Denmark Lowers the Bar

Denmark is facing shortages of nurses and childcare workers, and the regime is unable to recruit the number of soldiers needed to carry out their grandiose plans of accessible military buildup — yet rather than improving wages or working conditions, the government has opted to simply lower the standards.

A new education reform shortens the training period for nurses, childcare workers and other bachelor-level educational programmes by three months, ostensibly to address concerns about declining enrollment in these professions. The regime claims this will bring students "closer to reality," though it looks more like a shortcut to fill critical gaps in the workforce without making the jobs more attractive.

Meanwhile, the Danish military is also struggling to recruit. In response, it has relaxed health requirements, allowing individuals with conditions such as mild asthma, diabetes, and some mental health disorders like ADHD and anxiety to serve. The message is clear: the state needs bodies, whether for hospitals or battlefields, and quality is taking a backseat to quantity.

After all, how much fitness can it take to get blown up for king and country?

Denmark Rejects More Applications For 'Senior Pension'

Unions are experiencing that it is getting harder for their members to access the 'senior pension' early retirement scheme that was put in place as a bandaid on one of the world's highest retirement ages. Unions fear that the increasing number of rejections are rooted in economic concerns.

Denmark has one of the world’s highest retirement ages at 67, but a special 'senior pension' was introduced in 2020 to help workers who are too worn out to continue working. The scheme was expected to cover around 17,800 people by 2025, but due to high demand, over 30,000 people are now receiving it.

The senior pension is available to people within six years of retirement who have worked for many years but can now work no more than 15 hours per week due to health issues. However, Denmark’s largest trade unions — 3F, FOA, and HK — are reporting a growing number of unjustified rejections of applications. In 2020, 93% of applicants were approved, but by 2023, this dropped to 62%, raising concerns that financial considerations are influencing decisions.

Applicants have had to fight for their rights, with cases revealing that officials ignored medical assessments from applicants' general practitioners. Many rejected cases were later overturned after unions took legal action. A landmark court ruling in late 2024 forced the government to grant senior pension to a worker whose general practitioner had deemed him unable to work. Unions hope this will set a precedent for future cases.

The crisis highlights a difficult reality: Denmark’s economic success has come at the cost of its aging workforce. While neoliberal pension reforms are praised by establishment voices for strengthening the economy, they leave behind workers who have given their lives to labor, only to find themselves struggling when they need help the most.

it would take decades and nobody knows where the money is supposed to come from. the recruitment crisis is also a pretty hard problem, nobody in EU wants to fight for their country unless they literally get invaded which is still a spectre concept currently.
