Dwight is more famous than Kurt Cobain? Hendrix?
Who is that in Tennessee, and why isn't it Dolly Parton?
What?! How is someone from Delaware more famous than Aubrey Plaza?!
I can't tell who like ten of the people are
I got like 5.
So quirky!
Define famous. Taylor Swift would be on here. Ashton Kutcher is right for Iowa because that's all they could talk about there
TIL Tina Fey is more famous than Taylor Swift and Will Smith.
I was hoping to see how they'd decided that - maybe using Google searches, or some Wikipedia metadata.
Also, is this famous in the USA or internationally? E.g. there will be some NFL or baseball players who are household names in the states but are virtually unknown elsewhere in the world.
I’m guessing based on Louisiana’s (Britney Spears), they used search traffic and there’s a bias toward people who have scandals that drive periodic spikes in search traffic. There’s bigger celebrities from Louisiana than her but they aren’t really tabloid fodder.
Peyton Manning is probably more famous in the U.S. He’s constantly doing commercials and won multiple Super Bowls. Reese Witherspoon was the highest paid Hollywood actress in 2023. She’s gotta be more famous globally or Hollywood studios wouldn’t be giving her bags of money. I’m sure they both have way higher Q-scores than Britney Spears but are pretty much scandal-free.
I hadn't heard of Q-Scores, thanks for the link. Interesting to think about infamy vs appeal, and how some for some people+issues they can be the same.
I suppose that they could use something like Google Ngram which might give similar results to search results - particularly how tabloids will exhaustively cover scandals and drive up their "fame".
I’m a big Parks and Rec fan. I’m just finding out that Tom Haverford and the actor who played him, Aziz Ansari, are both from South Carolina. That’s great!
Parasocial relationships are weird and fucked up.
Stephen King isn’t more famous than Patrick Dempsey?
