My Project Manager at work used to be a founder of a dating app startup that sent user profiles to Indonesia to be manually categorised by a university student in her "free time" (aka 8hr shifts whilst studying too). Of course they called this "AI".

Now that I think of it how the fuck did that pass GDPR lmao

Basically all "AI" automation companies do this. They show off a prototype backed by global south labor to get investors and then scramble to build what they promised. Usually they don't build what they promised but they all got psid for 2+ years based on that bluff.
