When I did my work placement in college at a long term care home, I had basically 1 day of orientation and that was it. I was expected to do 1-1 counselling sessions with residents immediately, it was absolutely terrifying.

So many people I know kept pushing me to do this cause they thought it was fun, and they always thought I was paranoid for saying I didn't want to give a corp my literal dna.
I think it's less that it was revolutionary for the survival horror genre and more that it was revolutionary for third person shooters. Basically every third person shooter took some design cues from RE4.
I definitely agree with you though, that it basically ended the era of horror games being mainstream.
Been playing Dragon Age Veilguard basically nonstop since it released. I'm very pleasantly surprised that it's as good as it is after the development hell that it had, definitely missing some of what made the older games special in terms of story and characters but actually playing it has been a blast.
