In a bombshell leak from @PinkNewsStaff on X, Pink News' CEO Benjamin Cohen has been recorded signalling his intent to abandon the trans community to instead focus on being an “entertainment powerhouse”.

In the leaked recording Benjamin is captured stating "We have to be careful." "It's the role of others to change narratives", going on to further say that covering transgender issues will cause them to lose advertisers.

This revelation comes two weeks after pinknews removed their trans category from the website.

@PinkNewsStaff joined X in May 2024 and has been releasing several other allegations about the outlet, claiming there is a toxic culture of bullying, harassment and discrimination at PinkNews.

Leaked audio in the linked article.

Sometimes the Onion misses, but when they hit, they fuckin hit.

[-] beef_curds@hexbear.net 99 points 1 year ago

He called covering trans issues "charity". What a piece of shit. A-gay drop-the-t behavior.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 82 points 1 year ago

It's self sabotage too - once you start splintering off pieces of the movement for liberation it's only a matter of time until you're the only one left and they come for you next.

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 72 points 1 year ago

This goes doubly because trans communities can be fairly well organized. I often see a very strong trans presence in queer spaces simply because we need to make up lack in numbers with determination and because we feel a stronger pressure to defend ourselves.

This is what pinkwashed capitalism gets us. I wonder if he's aware that the same advertisers will drop cis gay gossip outlets playing into respectability politics as well once transphobia has been used as a door opener to roll back the incredibly recent, still incomplete denormalization of homophobia, or if he's just the average corporate ghoul who can't think past the next three month's KPIs.

Besides being spineless and pathetic, if I've learned anything about the Internet it's that the machine literally runs on outrage. If you are a lightning rod for outrage, you're a lightning rod for money. Think about the payout Imane Khelif is about to get from terf woman and divorced science dad. People cannot get enough being mad. You have the perfect machine for it in the Internet. People need to take breaks from making millions on the Internet because they get so fucking mad so fucking often they need to go touch grass. People spend billions and billions trying to get people to look at them while they're getting mad. And you're telling me you're getting hits on "contentious content" and you're upset about it? It jeopardizes ad revenue? GET NEW AD REVENUE! IT'S THERE! BLUE CHEW TOOK OUT ADS ON THE CUM TOWN PODCAST AND YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU CANT GET A RAID SHADOW LEGENDS TO SPONSOR PINK NEWS? GET AN INTERN TO SEND AI GENERATED LETTERS TO POTENTIAL SPONSORS. YOU HAVE A HOT COMMODITY AND YOU'RE THROWING IT IN THE GARBAGE.

All you'd need to do is open a comments section under your articles and give an ally mod powers (give them $200/mo and never look at it again to avoid every headache) and you'd get infinity traffic to your website - enjoy your yacht.

Color me surprised that a liberal cis gay man is being the weakest link in the chain when it comes to giving a shit about our rights.

[-] roux@hexbear.net 56 points 1 year ago
  1. What the fuck is wrong with some people?

  2. Is there a good site for queer news that isn't ran by terfs?

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago

https://www.erininthemorning.com/ seems good from what i can tell. she focuses particularly on trans legislation.

[-] AcidSmiley@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Erin is usually the most thorough source for the US, i hope somebody can name a comparable British outlet as well given that it's on the forefront of fighting against trans rights in the imperial core and has some of the most openly transphobic journalists even outside of conservative sites.

She's a reputable source, but the total focus on electoralism seems very LIB to me

[-] Llituro@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

it is very lib. but given the amount of active hate legislation coming out of state bodies across the country, her thoroughness is welcome. necessary but not sufficient.

There's Xtra, it's Canada based but it covers some American stuff too, and it doesn't shy away from trans issues.

[-] roux@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Cool will use this going forward. I didn't browse pinknews that much but I'd just rather avoid products ran by bigots where I can.

[-] save_vs_death@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago

pink news is based on terf island, they simply want the terf money

[-] miz@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

they still teach Niemöller's poem I assume, but it sure seems like liberals don't understand it

EVERYBODY IN, NOBODY OUT.

[-] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

To be fair, Niemöller did support Hitler.

[-] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago

And pink news is what exactly?

[-] ashinadash@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

hexbear should create a new site called PinkoNews

[-] MolotovHalfEmpty@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

It seems like the owners have been scum for a long time too. Apparently the faked having POC content contributors for years after they left (some calling the management culture racist when they did) by reposting old videos with black creators but having white people write articles under the same bylines in order to defraud a fund that donated to media orgs featuring black content creators...

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

What’s next? My beloved site Hexbear turns out to be full of libs so as not to alienate porky?

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

hexbear will eventually become an adhoc linkedin networking site

Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
