True, but that can definitely be influenced in utero. For all we know something like the microplastics we now all have in our bloodstream might cause the brains of fetuses to develop differently. Also there’s a genetic component. What if people with ADHD are currently more likely to have children now than a few decades ago.

I’d argue there’s many potential reasons why there might be more people with ADHD now. I’d be surprised if the rate is fairly constant. Not that that’s easy to measure due to changes in how we diagnose (as others have already pointed out).

The amount of male to female ratio of comments on this post is wild. We’ve been tackling the female taboo skills so much in the last few decades. Obviously we’re not done but it’s time for the men to make progress too.

Also I guess I can code. And while it’s hardly weird for a woman nowadays most of my field is still 80-90% male

My husband and I are in our mid 30’s and don’t have kids. I even work from home 90% of the time so no commute time. I have so much time that I do volunteering next to my full time job. And then I still have time for hobbies.

Hm. That’s worth considering, yeah. But I want to get away from Adobe. I dislike just about every single change they made to any of their programs in the last 5 years… And any change their made to their business model in the last 15 years or so.

What are the chances that one of the first 50 or so people had some kind of STD and this is just a mass-spreader event? What are the chances that she now has permanently damaged her health?

I’m fine with sex between consenting adults as long as it happens safely. I just don’t see how this could possibly have been safe. And even if (and that’s a big “if”) all of the participants got tested beforehand, what are the chances that the next person “inspired by” her will also do this safely?

I use a lot of adobe programs, like photoshop, illustrator and Lightroom. The standard MS office stuff and a bunch of games both via steam and the EA AppStore, some of which are windows only. Mind you, I know most if not all should work using wine (or similar) or have good alternatives. But I’d rather try first before nuking windows.

I tried setting up a dual boot Mint next to my Win 11 last night. Just so I can experiment with getting all the (replacement) programs of my Win 11 install to work on there… froze during install and was busy for hours getting my boot files for Win 11 back.

I’m not a technical genius or anything and now I’m scared to try again. I assume it’s way easier if I would just rip the bandaid off and do it in one go. Sadly too much relies on me still being able to use the computer close to the way I could before. Ah well. Another day, another chance to nuke the boot files.

I don’t know. It takes a while to get organized but I have confidence that they’ll get there. At least based on what I’m seeing at the moment. Could obviously still just slowly die down again. Time will tell.

This is absolutely perfect! The crowd I am following on Pixelfed is pretty much exactly what I am still partially missing on Lemmy. So excited about this. Thanks for sharing!

All numbers I’ve seen for record applications were for high level research and university level teaching. Maybe the medical doctors mainly moved states? At least I haven’t seen them making headlines about moving to Europe.

Just found out half of everything I ever did on the site was shadow banned. Looking into ways to mass delete my history.

Where do I sign up for the exodus post?

I got banned from a vegan group once because I responded to a person talking about how “non-vegans must be sociopaths to not care about all the suffering of animals as they scream in pain” or something like that. I responded with a link to a study that plants do in fact scream when being injured. We just can’t hear it. Apparently they didn’t like that, lol.

Edit to add: I didn’t just respond with a link. But something like “As much as I appreciate veganism I am not sure what to tell you. Because if avoiding screaming and suffering in your food source is the reason you became vegan I do have some bad news
