Wasn't it originally a huge public undertaking? It was my understanding that the rails and CN began their lives in public ownership before being privatized.

Did I misunderstand things?

Used to do this. I had issues with either the audio or the video feed randomly dying, though, so I ended up finding a way to make HDMI+USB work when I moved.

More reliable, but now that I'm starting to think about reorganizing my office, copper will no longer do for 4K120 as that'll go over the 5-meter limit. And an optical high bandwidth HDMI+USB setup isn't cheap.

Upsides and downsides...

That's being unfair to the poor nihilists.

I just thought that in real life, when they were out of on-stage roles, other children would do something else. But then again if the children are, like, 7, it's not like you can assign ALL the jobs to them.

I hadn't thought about it. But then again, I never did any sort of play at school.

Wait, does it? Are joules in thermal energy per kelvin a purely linear relationship?

Statistically speaking, Republican party voters are more white, more male, less poor*, less educated, more rural and older than Democrat party voters.

Making an effort to reduce a certain demographic's ability or willingness to vote will necessarily affect one party more than the other. As an example, if you add hoops to jump through, people who are already at their limit, working a zillion hours a week, are unlikely to do it, while the average retiree will probably not mind.

*It's complicated. Republican voters tend to be middle/upper-middle income, while Democrat voters tend to be lower/lower-middle income OR high income, leaving the middle for the Republicans.

Huh. The person was off-frame. And I'm pretty sure i retroactively chose a color for the ball.

I think I might have a black-and-white imagination.

I'm lucky enough to be middle class, ever since landing a somewhat boring job that pays, like, 75% more than my old one, all in web development. I still can't afford luxuries like a car or a house, but hey, I have a nice electric bike! And I can pay someone to clean my apartment every two weeks. It costs, like, 7% of my income, but I know I wouldn't be able to keep it clean otherwise. Health issues suck.

I have poor friends who don't earn much more than the minimum wage. They often complain about the price of groceries, and say things like "I've wanted this game so bad for so long but I don't have any money left this month". Each time I'm reminded of how thankful I am that I don't really worry about prices anymore at the grocery store. And it makes me sad that we hadn't such bad financial priorities that we have people WITH jobs who have trouble paying for food. Imagine those who can't find a job!

There's also my dad, as well as a friend couple of mine, who are rich. The friends, it's crazy. They each have a car, PLUS a special summer car, they buy Dungeons and Dragons books on a monthly basis, they go on international trips yearly, they go camping in an RV, they're always doing activities that cost a lot of money, they go to the restaurant a lot, etc. My dad is also on an airplane on a yearly basis.

It makes my head spin to just think about the sheer money. But none of these people are evil my rich friend is definitely more left-wing than anything else, and he's a very smart person. They were just both blessed with luck, energy and talent, I guess. My dad is just a normal near-boomer. Neither better nor worse than the rest of them. He just got a high-paying factory job and had the energy to keep going.

I'm reminded of those people whenever I'm tempted to put all rich people in the same basket.

With this arrangement, they probably can't steal your data. But they can absolutely destroy your phone with a string electric shock, if that's the sort of malicious plan they have.

I started dating someone and then realized pretty fast I didn't like him that way.

The dude was already pretty depressed as a baseline, and I feel like giving him hope and then taking it away like that has dropped him pretty deep into negativity.

I'm a big fan of fake brands/products in anime. I don't know why, but they bring me joy.

It's not only major cities that ought to have good public transportation. Basically everything except small villages and rural communities would have all that in a sane world.

But yes, over 80% of the population of most developed countries live in a city.
