Don't forget blaming all problems on immigrants. But I guess even the Democrats do that now so there's little difference there.

I’ll stick to Kamala cuz you brought her up.

IMO, they know what to do if they want to win. FDR showed them and was the most successful Democratic president in modern history. successfully. Bernie showed them by getting unprecedented number of people, young and old, rural and urban, to support him - without any institutional backing.

If Kamala wanted to truly, from the bottom of heart, win, above everything else - just like what Trump wants - then she would’ve done what they did. Promised populist policies, and presented herself as anti-establishment and gotten the staff that would support that.

Of course, this would require the DNC to back her up, giving her the kind of support Trump receives - but lets suppose for a moment they also want to just truly win at all costs - if that is what they want above all else, then why wouldn’t they?

This didn’t happen. This never happens. It will never happen. They might gesture towards some populist messaging sometimes (because there are factions within every group) but overall? They don’t want to win like that. They cannot afford to.

So they lose. And they combine their forces to defeat anyone who threatens to win along those lines.

To Democrats, being the Center party, being the neoliberal party, making sure they at some level appear to have some working-class voices, but never allowing them to rise beyond a certain level or amass more than a trivial amount of power, is far more important that “winning”. That is, in my opinion, their role.

IKR? Like, if we can add some examples with each of the statements of the Dems doing that, then I feel this could be a very good and convincing piece for libs on the fence.

I found the image on Twitter. I searched the quote via a search engine and it brought me to a Medium article from 2011.

Well, I say article. It’s just the quote. So I guess that’s the origin? I don’t know. Someone somewhere took it from Medium and made it all “officially”.

Decent article for the more pro-Israel family members (unless they’re Islamophobic). A lot of information that others that are more focused on the riot itself don’t go into, simply by providing a lot of context for things happening in Israel.

I made the mistake of looking up this news on Reddit, thinking this would be opposed by the people who love procedure and civility and “international law”.

Big mistake. Don’t do it. You’ll burst your brain/heart from anger and sadness.

Why couldn't he just be a poster? He's so good at it. Like, just be a guy who tweets and dunks on people, and everyone will love you. Why you gotta be a fascist.

Hate to see people waste their life doing something their not good at (business, governing, marriage) when they could just spend it tweeting.

Honestly? I’ve only lived in countries with Celsius and Celsius is how I feel. I know exactly how hot or cold a day is gonna be if I look up the temperature. Thats how I know what clothes to wear!!! But Fahrenheit confuses the shit out of me. Every time I visit the US, I always convert the temp back to Celsius when someone tells me the temp.

I know Fahrenheit has more degrees and that can give you more datapoints. But cmon. The temp only goes up to, like, 50 C anyways lol. How many degrees do you need 🤣. Can you really differentiate between 61 and 62 F? Now, 60 to 65 F might be believable, but that’s like 15 to 18 C so, that much difference is shown even in Celsius.

I’m not saying Celsius is better, or that Americans should convert to it. Actually, if I was God-Emperor, I’d force us all to use Kelvin,, given it begins with Absolute Zero and I’m a sucker for shit like that.

But variety is the spice of life. For Americans, Fahrenheit is how they feel. For most of the rest of us, it’s Celsius.

The article also covers things that relate to trans rights in China more broadly, so definitely give it a read, but here's the stuff related to this case.

Timeline of Events: In 2018, Gao worked for e-commerce platform Dangdang. She applied for sick leave with her supervisor on the day of her gender reassignment surgery, submitting a medical certificate and the doctor's advice that she needed two months off work after the surgery. It was affirmed by her superior.

But the human resources staff rejected her application. They said her certificates contained “unclear content and cannot prove sickness”. The company also sent her a letter following her surgery, where they addressed Gao as “Mr”, referred to her as a “mental patient” and said that they had to “protect” other employees from her.

Two months after she had applied for sick leave, she was fired. Two months after that, she formally sought labour dispute arbitration. The letter the company sent Gao was used by her as evidence of unlawful dismissal.

In 2020, the Beijing court supported Gao on two counts and ruled that Dangdang should continue to honour her original contract of employment. In addition, the court said Dangdang should pay her salary from the date she applied for sick leave to the date of arbitration, which amounts to 128,028 yuan (US$18,000). It went on to state that “social tolerance is a blessing of the rule of law” and highlighted the need to “respect diverse ways of living and protect the dignity of transgender people.”

The details of the case were previously unknown, and were posted online by the Shanghai Federation Trade Unions on November 29, 2023.
