Wow. Sorry to hear that.

Not that it really matters, but if you'd like to upload a video to hexbear, you usually have to upload it on a different video hosting site first. I used Tankietube last time I did it.

For sure. They did an islamophobia report on the Tories at the same time as Corbyn's on antisemitism and to no surprise at all the Tory islamophobia incidents outnumbered labour antisemitism by a long way.

No reported deaths, no.

I don't remember the details of Charlottesville precisely other than the car ramming and general nazi chanting, but I think this one has a different profile. Unite The Right was a large organised protest, with partakers ranging from full blown Nazis to regular right wing 'beautiful boater' types.

The EDL really has a small active presence in comparison. These protests are hardly protests at all, they're more like violent mobs going out of their way to smash shit up. If you look at some of the footage, some of these gangs are of about 15 people who go out and attack the first Muslim guy they see who doesn't get out of their way. There's one video in Newcastle of a gang of entirely children doing it. (Under 16ish) There's another where they suddenly appear in a city centre and turf up a Muslim guys stall. They're violent gatherings more similar to football hooligan gangs of the 90s (with a lot of crossover, I imagine), than a truly political cause.

The closest thing they've had to an organised march was the big one in London with Tommy Robinson the other week against Palestine and trans marches, or the violent protest yesterday outside a (Rotherham?) immigration centre.

These EDL folks - for the most part it's not like they protested and then kettled by the police and then started lashing out, it's that they started throwing rocks and lynching people and then eventually dispersed or got pinned down and carried on fighting to the end. There's not much marching in a line, it's more like a horde. More of a pogrom than a protest.

Elon is about 6'2" though I think.

What it comes down to is:

bus driver labor union leader (in a continent where union leaders often meet grisly fates), involved with militant leftist groups, who also at one point worked as a bodyguard to a presidential candidate

versus... a billionaire mall ninja

[-] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 45 points 3 months ago

No, but compare T1 to New York or something. Still light and day. Then try T5 vs Detroit for urban or Appalachia for rural.

I'm interested to hear just how 'bad' it was - I of course don't trust the exact figure they put out, but its hard to know if they'll inflate the statistics because China Bad, or if they'll deflate the statistics because MI6/Britain is James Bond good.

It's so silly. All the spy stuff. It's like - well we hacked them, then they hacked us, then we hacked them, then they hacked us, then we hacked them, for as long as computers have been a part of each nations infrastructure.

So, 'Breaking News' everyone, spies are still spying. The spying will continue until they stop spying on us.

I wish I'd written an article about this when the war first began. I've known and been saying for months that the process will go like this:

Ukraine will face demolition by war. They've repealed labour laws and banned left wing parties. Now, with the conditions right, the circling sharks of 'investment' have come to feed.

BlackRock and JPMorgan are apparently on a co-venture to get a hold of the contracts, that they'll make billions with, off cheapened labour and a desperate population, extracting the countries wealth to their banks. I'm sure some wealthy Russians and Ukrainians will make lots of money too.

And just watch, as it starts to be hailed as a charitable effort. Proof of Ayn Rand's concept of business altruism..

certified Guardian moment.

I did some further detective work too, that isn't particularly shocking - it's just how journalism works, but if you've never given it thought before, this might interest you:

The 'publication' they source, until about an hour ago, didn't lead anywhere. They report it's contents, but don't link to where it can be accessed. My first thought was that it was some very shoddy journalism. I went searching and found nothing initially. I tried again later and found it:

https://policyexchange.org.uk/publication/closing-the-back-door/

I then inspected the webpage's source code: "datePublished":"2024-02-05T00:01:01+00:00","dateModified":"2024-02-04T23:41:48+00:00",

It was modified on the 4th at 23:41, and It was published on '05' - today, at '00:01:01'.

The Guardian reported on it 9 hours ago. The Irish Times reported on it 8 hours ago.

Therefore, I can say without a doubt that The Guardian and The Irish Times colluded with the Policy Exchange think tank in advance, and these articles were probably lined up in advance of today. Perhaps those publications uploaded in advance in order to catch the Sinn Fein leader news cycle while it was hot, because they hadn't anticipated new leadership happening in that moment (the day before).

The Mirror also published an article on it at the time the Policy Exchange website went up about an hour ago, but I can't be arsed to check whether they're just regurgitating second hand info from the Guardian and Irish Times, or whether they're reproducing first hand info from the original publication.

Also, the think tanks leaders are ex secretaries of defence. The department of defense (offense, realistically) always has ties to top media publications.

I've noticed a major uptick in Russia scaremongering recently. I think it's lining up with upcoming elections in the UK and US. Usher in the strongmen.

Here's some excerpts from warhawk Daniel Johnson:

  • In the UK, only 18% of millennials would be willing to fight for their country.

In Germany,

  • He {Pistorius} warned recruits in Hamburg that peace in Europe was "no longer an irrefutable certainty" and asked: "Are we seriously ready to defend this country in an emergency?" Raising the possibility of reintroducing conscription, he continued: "And who is this we? This debate has to be had."

Pictured: scum (with an iron cross? It can't be, right? I'm not expert but I'd imagine it's a different symbol)

Then a final absurd note:

  • "But a concerted campaign of rearmament, embracing not just Nato but the entire free world, would demonstrate to Putin, Xi Jinping and leaders of other authoritarian regimes that the West is ultimately invincible."

Cope and seethe

  • "Now it is time to show that the West - including all who share our values - is capable of dealing not only with pirates who threaten trade routes but with dictators who threaten humanity. If we cherish the peace that has prevailed over most of mankind since 1945, we owe it to posterity to prepare for war."

Most of mankind... What a blatantly false idea. Western economic satellites have been in constant war.

  • "The Anglo-American naval action in the Red Sea is a reminder that only the West cares about preserving peace and the rule of law. We are very efficient at dealing with the likes of the Houthis."

We must ensure peace!! How? Spend more money on weapons!! Rule of law! This journalist should be exiled to Palestine with immediate effect.

'very efficient at dealing with the likes of the Houthis'... and then the next suggested article is

The court finds that there is sufficient basis for South Africa to have filed its complaint at the court, and rejects Israels request for the case to be thrown out.

The court has "taken note" of statements made by senior Israeli officials, including Yoav Gallant's saying that the IDF are "fighting human animals" and President Isaac Herzog's words that "an entire nation out there is responsible" and that there are no "uninvolved" civilians.

The International Court of Justice determines 'at least some of the rights claimed by South Africa and for which it is seeking protection are plausible, the right of Palestinians in Gaza to be protected from Genocide'.

Based as ever. It's so inspirational to see how South America has managed to be a bulwark against western hegemony for so long despite the brutal regime changes that have been forced upon them for about 200 years. They are my main source of hope whenever I feel doomer.
