I started this one. I'll stand by it, really. The original threads were full of people 'ironic' hornyposting. The artist draws lewd bowser images.

Yeah, alright, it's not so horny coded that it should be banned - I came down too heavy on one side, probably because I was bored at the time. You would have to be. Clearly I still am.

But hear me out: if you were looking at this image on your phone, and an average woman peered over your shoulder, I think they would think 'oh, it's a gross little horny weaboo'. Perhaps take it a step further, what if it was your screensaver, or a poster in your room? People would assume the worst, because images like this are generally created and consumed in such a way.

I'm not just saying that either - I actually asked a bunch of my liberal women friends their general thoughts on the image. Most just said cringe, others said 'this is absolutely drawn to cater to a male gaze'. I did not get one positive response.

At the end of the day, they are intended to be attractive. The artist has made a choice to give them all conventionally attractive features in the face and body, that particularly cater to a western male gaze. That is all that can be said for it. Alright, the creator was NB or lesbian or something... but they have something to gain from things going viral, and it is pretty clear what qualities of this post drive its engagement.

Regardless, my final thought last time was that making nation states into anime girls is, if nothing else, cringe.

I saw a video of Charlie Kirk quoting Gramsci's prison notes the other day to call someone a cultural fascist.

The comments were all jerking him off for being so incredibly smart and well read.

George Lucas not only openly stated that his Rebels were the Viet Cong, but he also venerated the Soviet Union film system pretty recently for its freedom from commercialism, allowing more unconventional and creative films:

In interviews around the release of The Force Awakens he said also said, "Of course, the only way you could really do that [make money] is not take chances. Only do something that’s proven. You gotta remember, Star Wars came from nowhere. American Graffiti came from nowhere. There was nothing like it. Now, if you do anything that’s not a sequel or not a TV series or doesn’t look like one, they won’t do it." He goes on to compare his selling of star wars to Disney, with selling his children to 'white slavers', which was a bit insensitive, but I suppose I'll allow the sentiment.

any horseshoe theory promoters should be buried until their head is poking out of the ground

and then people should be invited to throw a couple of horseshoes

underarm, nothing too dangerous, just enough for the horseshoe to go 'thunk'

The people who started the company are just 3 white blokes with extensive industry experience who had their finger on the pulse of media appetite outside of blockbusters. They're not activists or politically motivated in a serious sense.

Maybe I'm being harsh but it seems like aside from a few good films they mainly just pump out quirky liberal stuff for the sake of generating profits - a heartfelt i-think-i-like-this-little-life movie with vague themes of representation and a saturated colour palette*** can be put together on a middling budget and easily recoup costs. Commercial viability is of course unavoidable but it feels like a motivating factor.

Civil War's their most expensive movie so far and it's only 50 million USD.

***Or whatever it is that tiktok is harking for in the moment: trauma-as-horror, the 2000s, existentialism, Adam Sandler, etc.

It's very well defined. The term has been used for hundreds of years to refer to specific political attitudes. It was made meaningless by the American political machine, purposefully.

Do an ounce of research and you'll find three closely related definitions used by Marxists here:

Marxism is a political science. It is precise. That is one of it's many strengths.

Haven't seen cries of misinformation or false flag at all. From the getgo the take has been yes it is brutal, but if anyone is to blame for Hamas' actions, it is those who created those circumstances: Israel and the western regimes that have supported it since its modern inception.

Palestine has a right to self determination against colonial settlers. A theocratic and violent response is what you get when you treat an opposing religion and ethnicity like animals for decades.

As such, we support them in their struggle.
